Knowing a few have converted their Standards into what is called a Half Breed, (SmokinJoe), how much trouble would be undertaken to convert a Standard into a full blown Interstate? I could think of the wiring harness being an issue. What say you experts?

This has been talked about before.

It would be cheaper and much easier to find and Interstate and buy it.

Agreed.  A nice standard should sell for about a grand or 1500 less than a nice interstate.  You would probably not be able to buy all the parts, paint, and stuff necessary to convert a std to an IS for twice that amount, not counting the amount work involved.

I could see mounting tourer/IS hardbags and an IS trunk on a std (like Joe's halfbreed), but not converting to a full hardwired IS fairing (and gas tank).  Either an OE shield or maybe a Memphis Fats or Woodys fairing.

But really if you want an IS, get one.

I have seen bags and mounts go for $1000.00 and the trunk and mounts go for $1200.00. By the time you buy the fairing, the harness and the ICM, Carb springs and Paint, not really feasible. An Interstate would be cheaper, even if you had to add chrome. But, that said, there have been some that have converted and they turn out good. I wouldn't do all that work, as there are MANY nice Interstates available cooldude

I converted mine a few years back. Started out with just wanting an IS tank then it kept going. Its not the trouble as it can be done. Its the cash. If I had do it over again. I would have kept my bike and put the parts money into finding an IS. You do need to swap in the IS harness and a number of sub harnesses. The IS tank, fairing, seat, bags, radio/controls and trunk dig deep in your pockets. Plus you need to factor in painting all the parts the same color. Finding a complete undamaged fairing was not possible. I had to source the shell, mounts, and instruments all separate.
