I will refer this question to the greater Valk minds for advice. I am a 11/2 years into owning our 98 tourer and thankful everyday that we happened on to one before we knew what we had. I recently purchased Kuryakan tranny covers for both sides; very nicely made products. To install you must remove bolts from the tranny, appears that its the side bolts that hold tranny to block. Either the bolts were installed way beyound torque or someone loktighted them in; regardless the first ones snapped when backing it out ( and NO, I wasnt going the wrong direction). My questions before I attempt the other 3,,,,1. is this typical,,,2. is the block aluminum,,,3. any and all advice is welcome

Thanks in advance,

The cases are aluminum, and the bolts will break, I know this, as I broke one.  If you can get it loosened just a bit, then spray with a nozzle can with a good penetrating product back into the threads, it will help.  Wish I had done that.  BTW three bolts will hold it.  Someday I will get it fixed.  Hoser  Shocked

Thanks Hoser, I will do that on the other three, but I do have to get the broken one out in order to mount the tranny cover

Use a reverse drill bit and an appropriate "easy-out".
Don't install the tranny covers as they add nothing but "Bling" and serve no other purpose.
And if un-insulated on the inside, will increase the tranny noise.
