I have a very loud "ticking" in my engine, my dealer tells me this is normal, to me it don't sound normal.

The ticking is there during idling, and at high speeds. Anyone have any suggestions as to what this ticking noise is and how to remedy this?

Try to pin down the exact location.. The pair valve assy. can tick, the engine valves could tick if really loose but that's unlikely, the exhaust gaskets tick if they are not sealing correctly.. Sometimes even when everything is right these engines will still tick,, its one of life's little wonderment's..

Hey Bob , for what its worth I had a noise I thought was a chirp or tick like noise while ideling and while running ... so I checked the timing belts ,cleaned the pulleys , cleaned everything I could find behind the timing cover.... the noise seemed to be coming , I thought behind the timing cover or behind the radiator area and after the cleaning it still was there and after pulling my hair , slamming the doors , yelling at all four weiner dogs .... guess what it was a stupid vacum leak from a t- fitting by the pair valve DUH !! ... I had used a piece of tube , and a steth.scope from HF and nothing ...but I found it .... so maybe check out hoses ... now is your tick sound metalic in nature ? mine didn't .... you can really blow a head gasket sometime with little noises ....

Check the bolts that hold your exhaust on, if they leak it sounds like a tick. I have a hard time keeping mine snug. I check them once a month. Beware, they snap off very easy, I keep a couple on hand (they are cheap).

When I finished checking my valves there was still a tick somewhat so I got down and started listening around I found a hole on the bottom of the exhaust at the collector guess it is a drain hole but it was making a little noise too !!!

After owning a Valk for the last 10 years I can tell you the noises can really bug you. What I have noticed is when I had my two brothers pipes I didn't notice any little noises. Since I went back to stock I notice tire noise, caliper clunking, pair valve ticking, etc.
