In a letter this week to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, White House budget chief Peter Orszag urged Congress to delegate its authority over Medicare to a newly created body within the executive branch. This measure is designed to circumvent the democratic process and avoid accountability to the public for cuts in benefits.

Good call scanner, there is nothing more frozen than the US Congress. Water moves faster above The Artic Circle than our congress moves.

A frozen congress would be good.  The only time they should act fast is for national defense, and this Congress is more prone to dismantle our defense than to use it -- except maybe to use it against us.

Can anybody name one government body that has been created that actually gets something done other than create more government jobs, waste, and headaches for American workers?

Yes I can, many, need an example, prior to the founding of the Secret service, one third of all money in the US was counterfeit, The Secret Service was developed and founded to fix the problem, it is still  one of their largest concerns, Government works we just all have to exercise our voting rights and keep an eye on them. If they get out of line we have to let them know. Just like private companies who make huge profits like say Blue Cross Blue Shield, whose bottom line is more important than anyones health in this country. The only problem is if you want a job and they (employer) choses to use BCBS there are no competitive (price) choices for us who are not happy with our employers choice of the people who make our health decisions.

I am sure no one wants to go back to the days when monoplies ran this country and workers worked 12 to 14 hours a day with no overtime and health, vacation or anything else. Sure there is waste in government but I am not sure I want to have no government.

Don't bother valkmc.
F6 lives in an entirely different world where the US government (especially the one we put in office 6 months ago) is the root of all problems.  Nothing can convince him otherwise and any facts or opinions to the contrary is commie socialist propaganda.  It's sad, but it's how he chooses to view his world.  He should try some of that personal responsibility he preaches - he might find out that he is personally responsible for his unhappiness and frustrations and the USA government isn't.  But don't hold your breath.

Just a reminder and a warning.

You gentlemen need to stick to the issues if you are going to discuss politics.  Discussing how stupid someone elses viewpoint is to YOU, is not discussing the issues.

In yet another slimy move (to repay campaign contributions) the lawyers are now going to get a tax credit if a new bill passes that will do the opposite of tort reform (which they neglected to even address in the medical coverage bill) this will encourage more and more lawsuits, not stem the flow of frivolous suites as we desperately need.

Thanks Scott. It seems there are one or two members that can't make a comment about the issues without attacking someone's character. I have personally been attacked by them on numerous occasions. And as for this thread, just more of the same old same old. Uncle Sam needs your money. Some might see it as slavery.

I'm self employed, I do not receive overtime pay, no one pays me while I'm on vacation, I provide my own health care and I work the hours necessary to get the job done. The government is the monopoly now. Your employer is not responsible for you health care, you are responsible. It's a novel idea, personal responsibility, more people should try it.
The secret service not withstanding, I would have given more of a nod to our military. People who have paid the price for us to agree and disagree openly and freely. I'd wager that with a third of all the money being counterfeit it would still purchase more than it does today. What's the annual budget of the secret service today and what do we get for our money, who knows?

Thanks for the lesson in personal responsibility, but know one can tell me about making it on my own. I owned a business in South Florida, the only way to make a profit was play follow the leader and turn all my employees into sub contractors so they could pay their own workmens comp and cut all of the benefits I provided them, like health insurance, vacation etc. I chose not to be that much of a jerk so I sold the company and went to college at the age of 30. I got a 4 year degree in three years, I did not take or apply for any financial aid, low cost government loans etc. I worked 40-45 hours a week at night (local newspaper manual labor, low pay), provided for my family, paid my mortgage, bills and most importantly my taxes, I call that personal responsibility. I think I maybe classified as a socialist liberal though because I went to a State College, not a private college. The difference was $15,000 a year,  The government subsidizes state schools, you know UF, Florida State etc.  I now give back to the community by being a high school teacher, not for the money (the pays is bad), but because the children (150 to 170 teenagers per year) I work with need help, wait maybe we should only educate those who can pay for it. I hate big government also,  that is why I e-mail my Florida rep and US Congressmen often. It is why I vote in every election no matter how big or small because that is part of personal responsibility.  I don't believe in telling people what their resonsibility is I take care of my own and my families and the local community I live in. I truly believe if everyone did good things for their community and country and not worried only about themselves all the time the US would be a better place, not that it isn't the best place to live already. God Bless America, and let her citizens realize that helping each other can be a good thing.

OK, no more comments about government or others opinions on it. I will stick to the techicnal board, it has the finest Valk info in America, even though I maybe labeled a liberal for asking for it  (That's a joke)

OH look the stock market is back up, someone call King George, and look new cars are flying off the lots 200,000 cars since the cars program started all for much less than our government gave to foreign government last year. (thats not a joke)

Unfortunately that really won't mean much.
It's kinda like "hurricane bread" or "blizzard bread"
Obviously I work in the baking industry.
When there is a hurricane or blizzard scare the bread flys off the shelf. We can't make enough. We work our asses off and spend a ton of money to try to keep product on the shelves. But the day after the scare is gone... the market goes dead. no one buys bread for days. it kills our bottom line.
The way I see it, getting everyone that is thinking about buying a car to do it all in one month is going to lead to some pretty dry times after its done.

This thread is about the health care bill that is before congress right now and the one Obama is pushing. It is not good and you need to get ahold of your congressman and tell them no. This is a little scoop about the bill. If this does nothing more than get you to look and see if this is true then its done its job. The more I see the proposals that Obama is pushing the less I like him. The steps he has taken has allowed government to expand at a alarming rate along with the national debt. To all who say that Congress should delegate authority elsewhere then why are they taking on more in controlling companies? I would also say that its never a good thing to take the control out of congress even though I truly believe that congress is compromised in quite a few ways. Democrat or Republican they are all men that have taken a oath of office not to their party but to the people of the U.S. They are supposed to watch our butts and they do sometimes. I will remind all that think that its a good thing for congress to delegate, What about the Federal Reserve? To me this is the biggest blunder of the US history. We should get the Reserve back.  We will all suffer regardless of your views or political affiliation or anything else that you are thinking may save you out of this mess. We all pay into a system that told us that we would be ok when we got older and needed the health coverage, now when we paid into the system and the politicians bankrupt social security which they should be in jail for, they want to change the rules. In part because government knows that it cannot afford the current system of social security and if they change the rules then they wont have to come up with a solution. who do you think this affects? ALL OF US. I would really like to see a real effort on our parts to do something about this bill and whats happening to us by some of the sob s in government. How about finding out if this is true and calling your congressman and posting what happened here. Either good or bad, we all work and ride our Valks and really want the same thing what was promised us by the Founding Fathers. To live a good life and also have that for our kids. If you disagree with someone name calling and criticism only serves to prove that you may not know enough about history and what the government has done to support your point. If you educate the person you are talking to then you may have a convert to your way of thinking. You can find examples of anything you want to endorse. The difference is where did the decisions lead to, the consequence of that decision and was it good or bad. Even Hitler got people to go along with him, what about these people. was it a sound decision for them to follow him? Of course not but they did follow what are you going to do today?

I apologize f6john-it appeared to me that you were addressing me with the personal responsibility remark. I will be much more careful before engaging my typing fingers in the future. I was not trying to offend anyone.

Way too long.  There is simply no possibility that I would take the time to read all that.

Lesson:

Your posts are normally long enough to put me to sleep.  Have the decency to understand that if it's too many characters for you to type (as in cut and pasted stuff) it is certainly too much for me to read.

Lesson end.

Hey Robert, I tried reading some of the bill two nights ago. Some of it sounds ok but more government most always means less for those they supposedly intend to help. Ask Japan about their efforts at socialization. And Argentina didn't do too well with it either. But someone voted for change. So I guess that is what we will all get, pennies on the dollar and alot less personal choice.

Everyone who doesn't want to die earlier than necessary because of the decision of some government bureaucrat withholding medical treatment should read at least the highlights of this government power grabbing monstrosity of a health bill.  Then you need to contact your representative and senators to find out when and where they are holding a town hall meeting and attend that meeting.  Let your feelings be known!  This "health care bill" has very little to do with health care, especially for the elderly, and all to do with "control" of almost every fassit of your life or the ending of it...JTL
