I called my Honda dealer and ask if they have a Valkyrie experienced mechanic - he said yes -- 10 year experience and meticulous . so I made an appointment and had him order a rear tire and the 3 O rings and thrust washer. I printed these pages off -- http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/TireChangeSplineLube.htmordered valve stems from Jake Wilson - http://www.jakewilson.com/p/1753/19082/Myers-90%C2%B0-Tubeless-Chrome-Valve-Stem-took the saddlebags off but left the bag guards on and took it in. Was gonna take the guards off but gotta take the shocks of to get the guards off . When I got there I gave him the printed pages I told him ; along with what your gonna do I want this done - the procedure on the pages for rear spline lube. He said no problem. And I said when you got it apart I want to look over all the gears and splines and see what condition they are -- he said ok. The splines and gearteeth were excellent, and still lubed BUT -- it was getting a little dry on the shaft end that goes into the u-joint - and the mechanic pointed this out. He said he uses blueray cause it stays in place good. so overall is ok. My 98 has 27000 on it. When I got home I looked everything over well and its buttoned up like original. Was 550$ -- lubeservice + a 880 Metzler-- and like having those valve stems in now to. I might add ; Before leaving the dealer I checked tire pressure and the new backtire was 32 lbs -- The service guy said Honda says 32-33 in rear tire-- I said BS your go by the Metzler tire air rating and its 42 -- or else these tires cup . Trust me the old tire cupped when I ran it 33. .

Mr uturn, ya forgot to deduct the cost of the tire before ya calculated the cost per hour labor figure.
It is still up there, but ya got to keep the lights, heat, or A/C on, and pay the building mortgage, plus interest on the parts and bike inventory.
Figuring all of that in, your hourly rate isn't very high.

I'll take a picture later and post it. HERE YA GO: The outer edge of the shock bushing is even with the end of the shock mount bolt. I just mount the extras as you see them, a longer bolt wasn't needed but since I also had the grab rail added in there I opted for a slighter longer one. No other change. Besides, if your guard rails are mounted inside the shocks, the spacing is going to be the same from the inside out to the end of the mounting bolt. So, I just mounted mine on the outside which also gave me a tad more room to R/R the Corbin side covers to help prevent scratching.

John where did you find the bag hanging off the front of your saddlebag guard? Looks real handy.

pancho, I'm not Stuffy, but those grab rails came from Rivco. Ya might check with them, phone call, and see if they are in stock or maybe a rerun of the part. The left side was sold with the center stand they built.

As for the bags, when in production they were made by Hopnel. Haven't seen any in a few years now. UPDATE: Just looked on Ebay, there's a new set of those bags with a starting price of $50. Just type in Hopnel, was about a half dozen entries from the top...fist page.

They have always been that way and I assumed that was the correct way to mount them.

But to remove your bagrails you still need to release the shock from the frame , as the bolt will need to be fully removed . so in essence your removing the shock?

UH! The shocks slide onto a stud. The stud that the shock sits on does not need to be removed, Just the retaining bolt & washer that keeps the shock from sliding off the stud.
