well the back wheel is off for a new tire, so i am looking at everything. question i have is, "what , if anything , do i use on the 5 allen screws to ensure retention. red, blue, purple locktite? anti-seize?, etc "

I haven't used anything, no consequences yet. If anything , I would use blue locktite.

I replaced dampers in both my bikes. I cannot remember, but vaguely recall the oe bolts may have had honda threadlocker on them. I used nothing. They are not under any particular stress (other than spinning), and have never read of any coming loose.

I buffed the old Honda thread locker off the screws and cleaned the threads in the wheel to avoid messing up the threads. I applied a small amount of Blue Loctite to each bolt and torqued them to 14 ft. lbs.
If you check the OEM manual they want you to install new bolts and those new bolts come with thread locker already on them.
Your existing bolts should be fine as long as the threads are good on the bolt and in the wheel.
