I'd seen some comments questioning the leg room on the 2014 Valkyrie for non-vertically challenged riders, and seeing as I had some free time today about a mile from a Honda dealer, figured I'd do my VRCC duty and go sit on one and get a few pics... I'm not the tallest guy out there, but at 5'17" I'm not exactly a midget either. The radiator pods act almost like a mini fairing in regards to leg placement, but I was able to very comfortably get my legs onto the pegs without touching anything on the pods.

As far as my actual impressions... I dislike it much less having seen it in person than I did when I only saw it in pictures. I'll withhold final judgement until I see what can be done to one windshield and bag wise, but I'm still very turned off by the high amount of plastic on it. But... Just sitting on it, it did feel... right... I'll admit...

I won't say there will never be one in my garage at this point, but we'll see...

You and I are very close in the vertical.   How do you feel about highway peg placement with your legs out around the pods, think it would work ok?

As you are sitting, feet on pegs, I could probably ride like that for only a short period of time without getting my legs out on some highway pegs.

The plastic is a turn-off for me as well, hidden motor, but everything seems to be moving that way these days, cars and all.   Blow molding is so much cheaper for the manufacturers but the prices of their products just keep climbing.   Gotta keep those greedy Executives and Board members happy...

Maybe it is the camera angle, but you look way, way too tall for that bike.

I'm 5'14".  I'm long wasted and short legged and look tall on every bike I've ever owned or been on...even on the ones that my feet hardly touch the ground.

However, my knees are very close to hitting the lower part of the fairing on a Goldwing as it is.

Wondering how you fit Serk on a Goldwing.

These pics are nearly 14 years old but I haven't gained or lost any height, me on my '98 Valk for comparison: (I have lost a LOT of weight in the more recent pics though, which I'm told tends to make me look a lot taller.)

I've only casually sat on 'em, no real interest in buying one for another 20-30 years so I didn't study it too closely, but I don't remember my knees or legs hitting anything when I put a foot on the peg, and with my height, I tend to put my feet on the pegs on even the most casual of bike sittings just to see if there's anything veto'able about the bike design...

For vertically challenged riders is OK,I have a 29" inseam and it's fine.
I went on a test ride last week and it followed me home  Grin

Not big on the bike either but to each his own.  Doesn't appear to be a place for highway pegs on the crash bars? Looks like your legs would hit the pods? True?

Mick-O-Pegs makes a spring loaded system that will eliminate the "alternate" foot position issue.

I keep wondering if these Rivco Rune hiway peg mounts would
work. I saw a Rune with them in Robbinsville, and have never
forgotten them...

Nice ride, Ed.  Congrats.  Like the black and the red.  Less so the blue.  We were told this morning that accessories (wind screens and bags and the like) will become available "within a month or so."  No precise date given.  Interested in the bike but must have a screen (at least).

We trudge on.

Kind sir:

Those calculate out to; 5'17" = 6'5"  &  5'14" = 6'2".

Those guys are tricky with their height.

Looks like your knee and hip are bent just a tad more than 90 degrees.  That can't be comfortable after too long.  You're an inch taller than me and I'm getting cramps just looking at you sitting on it.  And I agree, you do look too tall for the bike, like something you outgrew.  It looks like it's missing about a foot in length at the rear as well.

Imagine that, a "valkyrie" that looks like it's been outgrown.   uglystupid2

Why would your legs hit the pods anymore than when the whole fairing on the Gold Wing? Highway pegs work on them. coolsmiley

Stopped at Honda dealer today sat on F6B, Valk, and ST1300.

F6B has much higher handlebars and seat was softest and widest and ergos were very good.  I'd buy one used in 5-10 years with taller windshield and drivers backrest.  It felt a lot more open than the new goldwing I sat on as well.  Was the clear winner overall even over the new goldwing.

ST1300 was 2nd best very nice looking bike well laid out as well I could see that being bought as well used in 5-10 years if price was right.

New Valk:  seat was way too firm and small plus handlebars were way too low to be comfy for very long.  I couldn't get over the butt ugly front pods that scooped inwards towards the front forks, way too gawdy looking.  Rear seat was useless except for a teenage girl with a skinny butt weighing 110 lbs.  Would be a good bar hopper bike is all made for the mid 20's crowd is pretty much it.

That F6B though impressed me even liked it better than the goldwings just felt right for me more of an open feeling (more roomy not cramped like on the new goldwing).  At least in 10+ years I know there will be a used bike out there waiting for me that might have my name on it as long as the windshield is taller and rear passenger backrest.

One thing I recognized on all 3 right away though vs. our FAT ladies:  The seats are skinnier and especially the gas tanks are very narrow on all 3 as compared to our bikes.  Guess that is why they call it the 'fat lady'?

I'd like to see the dark red F6B though to compare it to the all blacked out F6B I sat on today.

I can't believe I didn't catch this until now but I goober'ed up my initial post, I'm actually 5'19"... So that might explain things a bit more as to how I look too tall for that bike, I tend to look too tall for... well... anything...

I'd love to ride one when/if given the chance, but we shall see...

I thought I checked a Rune picture before I posted the pictures of those
Rivco spider-pegs... if I did, I wasn't very careful... it looks like there's
no way they'd fit... the Rune valve covers look a different shape and
have eight screws, not six...

DG - what kind of pegs are those you posted?

Always hated how the Kury's scar'd the crash bars, and "peeled". These shouldn't do either.
Someone mentioned Mick O's & I gotta tell ya, those are great!
We really didn't mean to hijack this post, really, but it was kinda about gettin' comfortable right?

At 5'16" (I've lost an inch in the past 35 years or so due to some spinal deterioration) with an inseam coming in at an even three feet (which doesn't actually sound like a whole lot until you try to sit on almost any motorcycle - or get pried out of an MG Midget) I'm not sure there is a motorcycle out there on which I can ride comfortably with just the standard pegs for any distance. But I'd bet the pods on that Valkyrie don't interfere with highway peg placement any more than the plastic hanging off of a Gold Wing.

That said, I still like the looks of the F6B much better. And I like the looks of my 2000 Std in fast black even better than that.  Wink

I was at my local Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki dealer this morning picking up some moly paste, Dynabeads and shock bushings and partly because of this thread, I sat on the new Valkyrie again. Just like the OP, I can fit behind the ugly pods OK (I'm only 5' 12") but it's not a comfortable position even sitting and no way to stretch out in stock form without hitting the pods.

Just confirmed it's a cramped design for average to tall riders.

PS

The dealer has had lots of lookers, no buyers in a city of 150,000 people and no dealer next door with another 100,000 people. We'll see how it ends up later in the riding season.
