Went to pull some vines that were starting to grow up through one of my bushes and dang, I thought I had pricked my elbow on a holly tree leaf, but then I saw that dang flying poisoning machine. Can't find my venom kit which usually helps reduce the poison and pain. I did get revenge with one squirt of the wasp spray; they all dropped to the ground.

So, what do you do to stop the pain?

Over the years I guess I've been stung at least 50-60 times. But then again, my younger brother got hit about 15 times at once when we were kids.

By now I'm sure it's too late, but I believe vinegar and/or hot water, as hot as you can stand it, will destroy the venom...

Also, some of the best pain relief is killing the little  SOB's...

I normally use a 2 ice cold bottles of beer, one on the actual sting location and the other one DOWN the hatch, and repeat process untill it feels better. Cheesy

But then again that is just me talking out loud. Roll Eyes

One thing that works definitely.  Adolphs meat tenderizer, any grocery store.

A few years back, I had a wasp get caught between my temple and the open face helmet,  Stung the crap out of me. I stopped as soon as I could, pulled of my helmet, grabbed the adolphs,  dumped some in my palm, spit on it, mixed it, and put it on the sting.  Rode another 10 miles.  No swelling, no pain.

Wasp venon is a protein.  Adolphs works by neutralizing the protein.

Your results may vary.

I disturbed a nest of yellow jackets at work this week and got several stings before I knew what was going on. I had a boat load of them on my shirt and head and went yelling and waving my arms though the parking lot as I brushed them off.

The stings just seemed to keep getting more painful. When I went back with wasp spray to get my revenge my bud Jim went with me. As I was trying to carefully find the nest he kicked an object in the lot and they found him. As I watched him go yelling and waving his arms through the lot I discovered that my laughter seemed to have stopped my own pain.  Evil

I got stung this week, trimming some pampas grass, first thought the grass was getting me then I saw the nest and they were flying around me, little pest got me twice on tne finger, same finger, but they were dead within minutes. I just kept working and the sting just went away. But some times the sting is so bad I have to use some thing. I have found that tobacco dipped in vinegar, just enough to wet it, works real fast. Solo1 said Adolphs, and that works fast to. I get stung all the time, guess I'm too sweet, that's what hg says. hehe fb

I recall as a teenager I worked two summers on a hay baling crew with my dad, grandad, and a cousin. Since it was grandad's rig, he got to drive, my dad got the next best job of feeding the wire(an old Case baler), my cousin got the job of tying the wire since he wasn't strong enough to stack the bales. Me...I did the stacking on the hay rack as they came off the baler. One afternoon, the entire rig slammed to a stop and I saw all three hi-tailing it for the truck nearby....yelling and waving their arms. Seems gramps had run over a bumble bee nest, an act not taken kindly by the residents. I was standing there laughing my butt off with the last few bales still being pumped out the rear of the machine. I rammed my bale hook into the next bale and was about to pick it up when I realized it was the bale with the nest in it. Since my job was the dirtiest, hottest, and most difficult, I was sweating like a hooker in church and those bees for some reason just swarmed around me but never landed. I never got stung but the others got hit at least five times each.

This could be an interesting if not entertaining thread. Twisting the throttle for several hours today has healped ease the pain and completely erased the memory of yesterday evenings horrific event until reading these posts. Now it is itching and still a little sore. Sorry you guys and gal had to go through the pain. I'll try the Adolph's next time. Nobody on the hill here chews, so, I'll have to pass on that one although I've always heard that but never seemed to be anybody around with a wad when needed.

When we were little boys, it seems like every year someone would get into yellowjackets during
muscadine season... I still remember running like crazy and looking back at Walter Robinson
running with yellowjackets swarming all around his head. And i remember being down in the
woods with some guys, including Walter's brother Benji, when Benji had a "watch this" moment - he
saw a yellowjacket go under a scrap and said, "hey! A yellowjacket just flew under there"... so
he kicked up the scrap... and there went another group of boys, running for home with yellowjackets
swarming all around them.

Carolyn laughs at how cautious I am around bees... she got some yellowjackets between her toes
the other day... maybe that will fix her  Evil

Ah ha! And carb cleaner, plus it could be made to be a flame thrower. Idea!!!!!!!!!!!

Dog gone Daniel, couldn't you have just said you got stung multiple times and almost died. I read the whole story. Great read. Seeing the death and destruction in the house reminded me of about 1985. A friend and his wife, my wife, child and I, rented a cabin near Helen, GA for several days. We were excited about getting out of town and being in the mountains in a cabin. The first night we heard from the couple upstairs a loud thud and thought nothing of it. The next morning came the eplanation that they had swated a hornet, you know the type that build the huge nests hanging from a tree branch, to the ground and stomped it. As we examined the cabin we found a couple more, destroyed them, gathered what we needed for the day and departed. When we returned we were welcomed by all their siblings, cousins and the like. They were coming out around the electical outlet covers, everywhere you could imagine. This was a rustice style newer cabin with abundant cracks and crevaces. We grabed what we could and called the realtor to find other accomadations. The only thing available was a hotel room, not quite the same as our cabin but, no hornets. The realtor then called an exterminator who paid the cabin a visit and set off a bomb. When we went back the next morning to retrieve the rest of our belongings I couldn't believe my eyes. There was not a square foot that didn't have multiple dead hornets that crunched under our steps. Unbelievable. They had swarmed to the cabin, found a way in, and totally took over. I am so thankful it didn't happen while we were there or in our sleep. That many could have easily killed all five of us. My buddy, Ron, and I laugh about it today and consider ourselves "wasp busters" even though they were hornets. (Ghost Busters hadn't been out long.) It is one of those surreal scenes I don't ever want to repeat.

And take along an epidural shot buddy. Ya never know when you may need it.

I drove a mower over an underground nest of yellow jackets once.  I knew it was there and pushed the mower on top of the opening and bailed and let the mower run for about 20 minutes over the nest before retrieving it.

I attacked a hornets nest with a propane roofing torch once too.  You know the kind that blows a 3' long 12" wide fireball of blue-flame death.  That was gratifying too.  I also like to shoot the hornets nests full of holes from at LEAST 100 yards away.  Blow enough holes in the nest, and if it rains soon enough... they'll abandon it and go elsewhere, and all their larvae will die.

I had combat with a hornet that crawled out of the heater vent in a 1988 3/4 ton, lifted, 4x4 suburban once too.  at 40 MPH.  I contacted that hornet 4 times... including the first one with a folded up paper plate that made him crunch.  I thought he was dead... NOPE!!  That one ended up in a semi-controlled 180 in a roller rink parking lot, with me bailing while attempting to set the parking brake on my way out.  No sting... and I eventually killed that SOB.  I am lucky I didn't crash into that roller rink though.

I usely don`t stick around long enough to get stun.  But my mom would baking soda mix with water into a paste and cover sting with it works like a sponge to pull the poison out. cooldude
