An Iowa motorcyclist on his way to the Sturgis motorcycle rally with friends has died in a crash.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said James Ingersoll, 36, was killed Friday evening in a crash on Interstate 90 about three miles west of Mount Vernon.

The Patrol said Ingersoll failed to note traffic slowing in front of him and struck a camper.

Ingersoll was thrown from his bike and sustained head injuries because he was not wearing a helmet. He died later at a nearby hospital.

The Patrol said alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.

Ingersoll was travelling in a group of four motorcycles bound for Sturgis. The annual motorcycle rally begins Monday.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Ah speed had to be a factor or he wouldn't have hit it!  Wink I will never travel I-90 again. Bad enough from Rapid to Sturgis. I did make Kit wear hers for 12 miles as we entered a bad storm. 12 miles outta 1200 is a good start! RJ, US 20 thru Iowa was a great road. Nice country. And I might add, I have seen alot of pretty ladies this year in iowa. I hated to leave it!  Cheesy
