2014 Valkyrie 1800

Seminole, Florida

« on: May 03, 2014, 03:59:11 PM »

I've been wanting to put a ride together for a while now with the destination being The Cove Pub, Restaurant and Campground  located at
1242 S. Cove Camp Rd, Inverness, FL 34450 (352) 344-5894
The only problem was I couldn't remember the cool back roads I had found to get there, other than straight up 41...blah Undecided
Well it rained all day today so we grabbed our raingear and head out in the truck and had a great day antiquing, garage and yard sales, lunch and found the roads I wanted to take. Andrea was happy finding three hardcover books by one of her favorite authors like new for a quarter.
I will lead for those wanting to meet up at the Hess. It will take us 1 hour 15 minutes from the Hess gas station on the South West SR-50/Cortez Blvd. and Spring Lake Hwy. This should be a good meet place and fuel stop. I will post this again with plenty of advance notice for those interested. Maybe as soon as next Saturday, May 10th depending on my work availability and the weather.
Here's a couple of pics of Old Florida, these roads have beautiful scenery.
I must warn those that go with me ahead of time, there is a mean Pitbull that will charge any vehicle/motorcycle that passes his property. I have always got by him unscathed, but review in your mind ahead of time so we have no mishaps. Plant all your limbs firmly, give him nothing to see or grab onto. Do not swerve for him and create a bad situation for yourself or others, throttle through and leave him behind we will chuckle about it over lunch.
This will be an all day ride for me, but a good one. My plans were to blast home down the Sun Coast Parkway/SR589, unless someone needs for me to lead them back to the Hess, I will gladly do so. Then blast home from there.
This should be a fair location for all to make and hopefully our Northern brethren can meet us there.

Good riding area. The VTX riders group that I ride with at times have met at Sleepy Hollow Fish Lodge a number of times. Great biker bar about 5 miles south as the crow flies if memory serves from Cove. In Floral City on a nice loop road called E. Gobbler Drive About 2 miles off 41.
Fishing boats and air boats pull up and leave all day. Really good food and usually a band playing.
Think about it for another ride.
Won't be able to make it next Sat. but have fun if you go.

Man this is a huge Pit-bull.  He doesn't look that mean (or fast) though.  Grin

I have a very good technique to kick and launch small charging dogs.  Big ones I don't kick.

Passed a big 300lb black bear today.  He was haulin' butt, and we let him go.

Jeff, I know that place it's one of my favorites. We went as a group earlier this year. It's always a great destination. We will be passing right by Gobbler road. We could swing in on the ride back.

That one there is one of those "blue pits" I wouldn't want to attempt a kick on this guy, he may clamp on and not let go. Then I'd have to feed him at our lunch stop.

Been to Sleepy Hollow many times!
Always a good Southern Rock band playing outdoors and some pretty wicked airboats. Tons of bikes and bikers and everyone's friendly.
BillyBob, James, Larue, and I were there together at least once after a trip to the Flea Market. Am thinking I missed someone else that was there as well.

Which Northern brethren....and how far north?

I'm in the Panhandle and that would be a 700 mile, 12 hour hard ridin' 'round trip for me.

Yeah, I noticed that Bert. Check on Larues Valk? ???
Yes Doug Larue's bike has been on the lift at Berts garage for some major maintenance after  i was experiencing some annoying popping, Bert was kind enough to meet me in leesburg and swap bikes. Now I have his red and black till mine get done, oh boy it rans like a champ with over 80k on it. So...the carbs are taken apart and Dirt free now, slow jets changed to 38, float valves and all the springs and washers are replaced , also rear end service done, front and rear  brakes as well as the timing belts have been changed (those were big time off). Bert has done a great job on all of it. Today after  i visited Bert he ran a compression test and one of the cylinders had no compression and you can hear and feel air coming out of the left side exhaust. we hope its the exhaust valve and not the piston, he pulled the head off and will find which one is the victim tomorrow. Bert has all the pics of before and after and will post in due time. BIG THANK YOU TO BERT and to all of those who have helped hands on  like Jack aka Flrider and John and anybody of guidence and great input like Terry, Doug Tundra, Grumpy and others Thank you all.
Doug I am in for the party. cooldude

If it were Sunday I would be there!
Got an Antique outboard meet down at Lake Shipp, in Winter Haven on Saturday. This is a good meet and lots of old boats and engines there.

I see folks are itching to ride.
I'm waiting until I talk with Jerry later today. Sounds like he has something planned for Saturday. I Don't want to create any conflict. We should have something up by the end of the day. Wink
