Has anyone else noticed this gray sludge slurry in their fluid reservoirs? I went to flush and replace the clutch fluid last night. When I took the cover off the fluid did not look right even though it appeared to be fairly clear viewing it thru the level window. I removed the fluid with the Mity-vac to find this gray slurry in the bottom. I proceeded with the task after thoroughly cleaning the inside of the reservoir.

FYI, the clutch had been working fine. I assume this to be caused by moisture gathering? Not sure how it got in there other than possibly contaminated fluid. Then again the brakes were flush with the same new bottle of Honda fluid two years ago and this situation was not found in front brake res.

Thanks,

The fluid in my master cylinder looked nasty, and here is what it looked like under the slave cylinder. Mine had leaked for a bit a couple of months ago, had to refill twice then stopped leaking, and I assume this is what happens when brake fluid mixes with oil/grease.  The contamination affected all the fluid in the system eventually, even making it look nasty in the master cylinder.

This does not apply if you have not lost any fluid!!

I have seen mechanics use grease in the slave cylinder when rebuilding.

With use that will eventually show up in the master cylinder.

This bike had less than 900 miles on it when I bought it. I have been the only wrench on this since then. However I do no know what issues the PO had when new.

Pancho, I am not loosing fluid at all. This is a bit disturbing seeing that I have never seen anything like this working on my cars and trucks over the last 40 years. The clutch is working fine and I will look in there more often rather than ever two years.

I change the fluid in all of the items using fluid every 12 to 18 months whether they need it or not.

If what I'm seeing in your picture it looks like it has gotten a lot of moisture mixed in with it.

Without seeing it 1st hand, it hard to tell however.
