Up until yesterday, I had a Memphis Shades batwing in the front. I had my roof redone last weekend and the container was kinda close to the garage. I had to run on the grass and then stop to make sure I did not catch anything. Wouldn't you know it, I lost my footing and the right hand part of the  fairing landed on the container. Embarrassed It shattered the fairing and windshield like glass. Maybe a fiberglass fairing would have cracked but not break in pieces. Not my day but hey, it was my fault. I can either buy another shade or get something else. I would like a radio fairing and this is the object of this post. I would like a fairing where I don't have to move my headlight or speedo/tach. I tried that last year with a Harley fairing I got from ebay. I had made brackets similar to the ones sold by F6customs but my cables were  not long enough. Anything around that would fit the bill whithout me having to remortgage the house? Oh, and of course, it has to be a direct fit.

Woody's Fairing is what I have. You do have to move headlight and gauges but it is made specifically for the Valk and is hand laid fiberglass. The relocation kit sold by Darrell at F6 customs has everything that you need to relocate including longer speedo cable. The fairing will accept any windscreen made for HD so a ton of choices there.

I'm obviously a Woody fan as I have one on my bike too, but if you don't want to move your guages, there's Wide Open Customs.

http://www.wideopencustom.com/p-36-honda-valkyrie-fairing.aspx

However, it's a plastic fairing.  If you ever damage it, you'll have a much harder time trying to find someone who can repair it as opposed to a fiberglass fairing....such as the Woody.

Search for Woodys fairing.....there's plenty of posts about them.

edit:

Just know that if you do order a Woodys fairing, that it takes a while to get it.  Glenn doesn't have fairings sitting around on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere.....he builds them one at a time to your order.  He's a one man shop that produces fairings specific for our Valks.  They fit like a glove.

I'm gonna be ordering a fairing soon for my tourer from memhis shades. Do I need anything other than the quick release kit. I already bought that . I don't want to relocate anything.

I'm also a Woody's fairing fan. I've seen a couple of custom jobs with Harley fairings that looked pretty good, but I think the Woody's lines look the best with the Valk. Good quality, and the kit from FX6 makes the installation pretty simple. It isn't a quick release option though.

Virtually everyone that posts asking about a fairing says the exact same thing.....that they don't like the idea of relocating the guages.  Either from the aspect of simply having to do it, or that they don't think that they'd like the guages up on the handlebars.

I feel ya.   Wink

I felt the exact same way before I ordered and installed my Woody.  I too was very apprehensive about mounting the guages on the bars......however......after I put them there and rode the bike with them like that I really like them there better than where they were before.  They're not in the way of anything.....and I can see them better now.

XF6 Customs has a kit that includes everything you'd need to relocate the guages and the headlight....including a longer speedo cable.  It's an easy install.

It's not that I don't want to do it I've already taken all that apart and put it all back together again it's the price of the kits. I'm trying to get a fairing on a budget and don't have another three hundred for the kits to relocate anything. I would love a woodies but don't have the money for that and the relocate kit. So with that being said I have bout four hundred to work with. What's out there that will look good but still work with what I have. Mind you I don't mind getting my hands dirty. Lol

Blue put that $400 aside and save $500 more and you can buy a woodies and the relocation kit.
Fairing $664-$783 with radio cover and speakers.
Relocation kit $199

Second what Bighead said. I know it doesn't fill the need now, but it would be worth the wait for something you are sure to like. You mentioned audio and unfortunately, aside from lucking into a used situation, $400 dollars will be hard pressed to get what you desire. Rather than spending $400 dollars on something that wouldn't suit your desires, it'd be better to save. IMHO Otherwise that $400 dollars may just buy you regrets. coolsmiley You could possibly google used fairings for sale. Wish you luck in your endeavor.

That's what I'm starting to think too. You guys are right I have always desired to have a radio and speakers on my fairing. Right now I have one of those speakers set ups from oh he'll I can't remember they are bullet style. Sound good and work great paid bout four hundred something for them though. So it would suck to lose that money but I do want one of those woodies now that I've seen them. Lol thanks guys.

You could put the set up you have now in the classifieds and at least recoop some of your money. Just sayin. Glad we could get you thinking coolsmiley I wanted a Woody's for a couple of years before I finally pulled the trigger uglystupid2 should have just bought it then but I just got mine painted and put back together in March and LOVE IT! Well consensus seems to be for the Woody which I had already researched last year. The price of the fairing + the xf6 brackets is what kind of threw me off but I was unaware that the speedo cable came with it. I put  my N.C. windshield back on in the meantime and from what  I read here, a Woody will be a big possibility. I will be heading for Americade  in a few weeks and I will see if xf6 is there. I will scrape enough $$ to have a fairing built for next season. Will get in touch with Glenn to see how long it takes to build one.

Blue
Aside from not having a radio, I did like the Memphis Shades fairing. If you already have the quick lock mounting brackets, all you need is a fairing and a Windshield. I am 6 feet tall and had the 12" on mine and I think they should make a 14" although it was not that bad. I felt I had a lot of wind coming straight over the eyes. Be aware that this is a Lucite fairing. It looks nice but will not take any abuse, being in my opinion,  way more fragile than fiberglass fairings.

It's worth the wait for a quality product that's made specific for the Valkyrie.   Wink

Just know that a Woody is a permanent install.....it's NOT a quick release.  However, I can't ever imagine taking mine off now that's it's on there.

Member pancho had ordered a Woody but didn't like waiting for it and cancelled his order and ordered a Tsukayu fairing instead.  He's making it work for him now, but wasn't all too happy with it when he got it.

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,67862.0.html

One of the things I liked about the Woody is that you choose, buy and install your own stereo head unit.  As with anything, you can spend as little or as much as you want on a stereo.

After doing a little research, I found that a head unit with a cd player isn't the greatest idea on a motorcycle.....cd's tend to skip alot on a bike.

There's plenty of head units to choose from.  I chose this one....because I like the idea of putting my mp3 player inside the unit....and it was less than a c-note new.

Honda Valkyrie - Testing my Sony DSX-S100 in a Woodys Fairingpowered by Aeva

That video was the fairing with the included speakers that Glenn provides.

I later updated the speakers to a set of Alpines and added a Rockford Fosgate amp in the fairing.

More pics of my Woodys.....

Great post!  I too am looking into batwings and finalized on woody's thanks to this post.  Don't mean to hijack the post but have a question:

My  valk has 4" risers now.  When I move the tach/speedo to the handlebars, will I need new(longer) cables?  For that matter, has anyone installed a woody's on a valk with risers(4') ?  Perhaps the batwings only work with bars in their native position?

Comments appreciated.........

I just had too put my 2 cents in on woody,s.  excellent product.  could not be happier but I took it
one step further and went with a Dakota digital instrument cluster.  will post a pic later but I absolutely love it.  makes it real easy to see everything right there.  Glenn was a great help with the fairing and the speaker rcemendation.  can't wait to check all these bikes out at inzane. See y'all there.

Look forward to seeing that beauty there. I almost went the Dakota route, but expense, and just the sheer simplicity of the XF6 kit made my decision in the end. Did you use a speed sensor from an Interstate for you speedometer?

Hey Guys. I know it's been a few months and I completely forgot to follow up. With the time I took, I think I can give a valid opinion. I purchased a fiberglass Road King fairing from the USA trailer store on eBay. Comes to $300.00 US shipped to Champlain, N.Y where I picked it up. Thanks to a member, TearlessTom, who had installed a Reckless fairing in the past and I believe this one to be a similar fairing, I was able to use my Memphis Shades fork mounts and install this one. I made 2 plates and now, I can take it off in 2 minutes but, it is designed as a permanent install. No head unit or speakers yet as I will be painting it this winter. I made plexiglass plugs to cover the radio and speaker holes. It is black gelcoat. It came with a clear and a tinted windshield. All in all, I am very satisfied with it. It is sturdy, protects from the wind and does what I bought it for. I made the brackets to relocate the tach and speedo and made a bracket to bring the headlight lower and forward a few inches. I am very satisfied with it and, I don't think the price can be beat. Just can't wait to do a custom paint job on it. Till then, I am enjoying the few beautiful fall days to ride.
Don

Sorry. Seems I can't post the pictures. I resized to 800 x 600 on photobucket and does not seem to work. Maybe the post is too old!!

Valkcan,

If the shattered fairing is made of ABS, it's pretty easy to fix damaged/cracked ABS(I just spent some time fixing a set of OEM saddlebags that were made of ABS plastic).  That should get you by until you're able to get that beautiful Woody's fairing.

There are a few threads here about it, a few links to outside sources of information as well.  Or shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to discuss my findings.

Too late. The pictures show my new fiberglass fairing. The abs blew completely apart like glass, not just a crack.

Troysgt
Like I mentioned, I will get one this winter and then, paint the fairing. This gives me a good part of winter to shop around. We don't do much riding in the Montreal area in winter and by law, all vehicles must have winter tires as of December 15.

Valcan, if you're using Photobucket you don't use the Image icon at the far left above the first smiley. That's the whole purpose of getting the image URL from Photobucket, just "paste" it where you want it to show up.
