60 series Avon Venom Rear

Need a new rear tire and I have an Avon Venom 60 series laying around. Is it OK to use this on the rear of the Valk? I have a 2001 STD.

I've heard of guys using the 200/60 on the rear, but I have no experience myself. You might have a rubbing problem that would require doing the nut cage mod. Look under the fender and see the square nut inside a cage that is spot welded to the fender. The cage sometimes rubs on bigger tires.

If it is a 180/60 it will work just fine. Your cruising rpm's will be higher and it will accelerate a little faster. I ran thru two of those before going to shorter shocks and back to a 180/70.

I ran a 180-60-16 on my Valkyrie for a trip to Daytona. Did not like the added rpm's at cruising speed. I don't like the rpm's I run with the stock tire for that matter. But 80 mph and the engine was screaming with the 60 series. Too bad there are not parts interchange ability with the 1800 Wings as the cruise rpm's with that 60 series stock tire is sweet. But for a stoplight to stoplight racer the 180-60 is the tire to have.

I run the 200/60 on my Valk rear and just love it. Good luck! Shades

I have the 200 60 16 cobra on my standard ran it out to Frisco, Co and back seem to be holding up good. I had already done the nut gage mod while running a CT. The 200 is wide and fills up the fender so you might want to remove the nut gage.

Is the 200/60 much the same as the stock 180/70 as far as RPM's go?

My buddy John put on on his 2000 Interstate and it is still a shorter tire than my 180/70. If we hold the same rpm I gradually pull away from him. Not as drastic as the difference between a 180/60/16 and a 180/70/16.
