Most run a standard front. Some do what they call a double dark side. A rear tire that fits the front mounted backwards for some reason?

The front being seventeen inches limits what is available to a large extent.
There are few 17" rear tires since seventeen is generally a front wheel size.

I am not aware of anyone who has used a car tire for a front tire on the Valkyrie.Had to retract that statement. I once saw a photo of a guy who had not one, but four car tires on the front. With that exception, I am not aware of anyone who has used a car tire for a front tire on the Valkyrie.

Rear tire I am currently running on front to go with my Michelin Hydroedge rear a Michelin Pilot Activ Rear Tire - 130/70-17H. Ran a couple of K491 Dunlops and got over 30k apiece with them. This current Michelin front rides smoother and seems to be as tractable as the Dunflops were.. Dunlop @ over 30k. Hydroedge rear at 30k

My favorite front is the Avon Cobra. Long lasting, sticks like glue, handles nice.

Dunflop D404F on the front, Austone Taxi on the rear, Ride-on in both. I've got the same set up on one of my bikes (w/o the Ride on) and it's my favorite combo.

First DS ride. 98 Tourer 35k GYTT 205/60.... Avon Cobra stock size. Never been much for twistys in 47 yrs of riding. This set up ( and some RedEye shock bushings ) have boosted my twisty confidence 50% and climbing every ride.

I have run a Michelin rear tire up front, most of my front tires have been a good strong MC front tire. Brain fart, can't remember the brand right off hand.
Back in my old Wing/Yamaha days, we used to run a rear tire on the front just for mileage.
I used to run all over the Midwest attending AMA functions. There were 5 of us who chased each other somewhere EVERY weekend for a AMA sactioned event.
It was nothing to do 3,000 miles on a weekend.
A couple of times we rode 1,000 miles just to have lunch with some other AMA members who worked the field with us from Nebraska and Colorado area.
We would set on the outer area and write up AMA memberships before and after the rides. We would go to the Motorcycle Bike shows in Mpls, Chicago, Cleveland and etc. We would set up a table and have all the information laid out on the table for anyone interested in joining, we had the paper work.
Regular MC front tires didn't have enough tread depth to be of assistance.
