Flew into town to do some programs at the convention center.  Walked 4 blocks to the convention center from the Hotel, then realized I have to make the walk all week long. How does one ride in this heat?  Hot, humid, Southern Illinois is looking good. laugh  Best part is, I go home Sunday.

That is why they have a cab on every corner with a super duty A/C on the roof.

Just drink lots of water, and drink it often.

We drank lots of water during our 3 days in Death Valley,  Hi Temp was 123 each day.

Hey, big guy, how are you doing?  Judy and I hope to see you two at the CBR.  Are you going to be there?

Psycho had just told me it was 116 when he and f6gal rode in from Inzane last week. When Sandy, RP, Cheryl and I rode in I think it was only 113. Lucky us!

We crank up the heat every summer to get rid of the snow birds, otherwise they would stay all the time and make this town unbearable for us to live in.

You can see what I said about this : http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,6681.0.html

You need to schedule trips to Scottsdale anytime between October and April preferably the last weekend of March when you can attend Arizona Bike week.  Check out this months RoadRunner magazine for some suggested rides in AZ and they just scratched the surface of what’s available.

Now, the question is, if someone sent you here at this time of year, what did you do to piss them off? Hmmmmmm...

I fondly remember trips down to Carbondale from the South side of Chicago.  My niece moved out of there five years ago and now the family has no need to go down there.

It's suppose to cool off by Thursday or Friday. Only going to be 108; Maybe 106 if we're lucky. PS: Your oven is a dry heat too.

Well, I think out tV production schedule is based on the fact that in hot places in August, few people o there so room rates are cheap.  Now we head to Battle Creek.  We go south when it is hot and North when it is cold.  Today I seem to have adjusted to the heat.  I walked from the hotel to the convention center and thought, how nice it is today --- of course I may have become dilusional already.  Each day in Pheonix is a day closer to going home.  Found a guy selling a golf bag I been lookin' for in Craig's list.  Told him I would buy it if he brought it here, (10 miles), and he said no way.  That is the problem with being here with a TV crew --- no transportation for fun stuff.

There are some great riding roads down there, and lots of new wineries, not to mention the original 17th Street BBQ, 5 Times would's Champions at trhe Memphis BBQ cookoff.  To really enjoy it, one must ride to Murphysboro, IL.  It is far better than the one in Marion.  Ribs to die for.

You just missed the hottest July on record. I think the average temperature was 98.? Deg ... that’s average day and night. I’ll take the hot dry over the hot humid any time (and did). To ride here you need to play camel… drink lots of water before you take off and carry lots of water with you. Don’t worry… you will not need a bathroom stop.  2funny  A  good coating of spf36 or better and a long sleeve shirt or jacket will help protect you. I’ve got to admit that running 70mph across the desert will feel like your skin is going to spontaneously combust but ya got to love the AZ  winter in the valley.  cooldude

That's the first step.
Next, you'll be checking out the prices of homes/townhouses/condo's in the papers and on line.
Then, you start considering moving.  The first time you have to deal with snow or ice you remember Arizona.
Before you know it, you have an AZ address below your name and are answering such questions from visitors. cooldude

The final step is all your Carbondale friends want to come visit you in the Winter.

Yeah, it's an oldie, but a goodie, and highly relevant me thinks!

Arizona Diary

May 15th: Now this is a state that knows how to live! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. Mountains and deserts blended together. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th: Really heating up. Got to 108 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car, work in an air-conditioned office. What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a real sun worshipper.

June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least it's a dry heat. Getting used to it is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed two days of work; what a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though: got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 25th: Dry heat, my butt. Hot is hot! The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the A/C repairman charged $250 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th: Been sleeping outside by the pool for three nights now. $1,600 in damn house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

August 4th: 115 degrees! Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $1,200 and gets the temperature down to about 90. I hate this [expletive deleted] state.

August 8th: If another wise a** cracks, "Hot enough for you today?" I'm going to tear his [expletive deleted] throat out. Damn heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and no deodorant works well enough!

August 10th: The weather report might as well be a damn recording: Hot and Sunny. It's been too hot to sleep for two damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this barren damn desert? $1,700 worth of cactus just dried up and blew into the [expletive deleted] pool. Even a cactus can't live in this heat.

August 14th: Welcome to Hell! Temperature got to 120 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the [expletive deleted] windshield out of the BMW. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the $1,600 house payment to bail me out of jail.

August 30th: Worst day of the damn summer. I'm not leaving the house. The [expletive deleted] monsoon rains finally came and all they did is to make it muggier than hell. The BMW is now floating somewhere in Mexico with its new $500 windshield. nobody told me about staying out of the washes during a "flash flood" warning. That does it. We're moving back to California and buying a house next to the freeway for some peace and quiet.
