I need to know if the splines and pinon cup look good enough for another year?  Here are the pics from disassembly including the ones showing the before clean up shots.

Splines messy.

Pinon Gear messy.

Pinon showing oil holes clear, not plugged.

I think they have about the same amount of wear that they did last year.  They might be a slight bit more worn, but still look good to me.

What do you guys think?

Look good to me, Jimmy!

Maybe you need to come up here this fall.  It has been raining all spring, having a hard time getting the crop in.  But, the hay crop will be incredible!  Lots to haul for you!

Forgot to mention that these are all original parts and she has 115,000 on the clock.

Thanks for the reassurance.  The pinon and cup are the only question.  The splines look just like they did last year.  Little more wear on the pinon and cup...

Time to polish the rear wheel, replace the tire, and put her back together.

NC here we come!!@!

If you keep it lubed up like you had it, it will go for several more years......   LUBE IT UP  BOYS

They look OK to me too Jimmy.  They have a little wear, but wear that comes from use while properly lubed. All the failures I have seen are coming from lubrication failure. The one in my Blue bike was dry AGAIN this spring, and I replaced it AGAIN!!!

I can't figure this crap out.  This last time, it appeared to be a failure of the seal on the shaft... but I replaced it when I did it last year.

All new crap again. tickedoff But the one in the Green IS seems to be fine.  I have only had ONE failure of THAT one.

Instead of the tiny bit of moly lube like the service manual says... this time I just globbed a bunch of moly grease in there like a lot of other guys are doing.  I'll bet it'll survive this season.  Side note... Blue needs wheel bearings now... so I'll be pulling that rear wheel AGAIN in a few days.  Maybe even today or tomorrow.

Guys... I have the rear wheel removal thing DOWN. Between my two, Squealy's, and the couple buddies locally I know that have Valks too... I can do these rear end pulls in my sleep.

Sorry to digress.  They look OK to me Jimmy, but all those parts are cheap.  $100 or so.  If you're worried... replace 'em.  Pretty cheap piece of mind.

Hey Hay,

I agree with the others, look ok to me too.
What about the wheel dampers? I'm no mechanic or expert here, but think slop in the dampers moves all thru the rear end when shifting.
Just changed mine, not real loose but could put my little finger into each damper hole and easily pull out of wheel. May be just a head trick, the shifting seems to be smoother.

I see what everyone else sees Jimmy, looking good. Let me know if you need new dampers for the trip, I have a new set in waiting. Don't forget to tighten the flange nuts on the final drive unit to the swingarm like I did on Black Saturday. I was about to give an unfavorable opinion of the CT I installed, rode over 1500 miles with all 4 nuts loose, loss 2 of them. Couldn't figure where that knocking noise was coming from, even rode it on the Three Sisters. Got the nuts installed and tightened, rides like a dream, may just keep that CT.

Got a spare final drive if you need to BORROW one. Has 16,000 miles on it and the pinion cup. Bought it about 4yrs ago but mine splines still look good after 175,000 miles. I did strip out a cup and driveshaft thou.

I am running this one for another year at the least.  I have spare rear ends, just no drive shafts.  Well, after today I will have spares..  Smiley
