Do you have to remove the radiator to get the horn bracket off?

I just removed the horn and left the bracket. I don't know how you would get a wrench or socket on the back nut without at least tipping the radiator forward.

You don't have to, but it is a huge pain getting a wrench on the back nut unless you make a custom one like this
.

Cheapy harbor freight or  princess auto wrench, torch and a vise.  Measured wrong the first time and had to bend it a second time.

Edit: I went out and tried a 14mm swivelling gear wrench and it fits on  the inside nut fine.  Also tried a 14mm crows foot  and it fit as well.  A deep offset wrench would also likely fit

crows foot linky ( I have a napa set so cant guarantee the fit of princess auto)
http://www.harborfreight.com/7-piece-3-8-eighth-inch-crowfoot-metric-wrench-set-94427.html

The wrench was needed as I didn't have either of the two mentioned tools at the time

Good luck

Its been a while.  I didnt know it was supposed to be hard to do so I just removed the bracket and I didnt have to bend a wrench.  I didnt touch the radiator either just removed the horn and its bracket, it was no big deal.  I think I used a socket and my long extension.........

PS...I went out and looked.  Mine was mounted on the end of that old "buzz bolt" so the other end of it is on the other side of the bike, not behind the frame.........so no problem. The way the bracket is designed with a tab that fits behind the down tube of the frame, the buzz bolt location is the only place it fits.  So yours is probably at that location too.

Moved the horn to here

Unless I am missing something here all you have to do is take the horn off the mount then everything is easily seen and accessible.( or at least it was on mine) I think some folks OVER think things.

Thanks, we had a Rivco air horn mounted on the horn bracket, it broke, so trying to replace the bracket  the nut would just spin, and I could not get a wrench on it.

It looks like a trip to Harbor Freight.

The head of the bolt that you need to get on is on the left side of the bike.  Spin that nut and look on the left side, you will see it turning.......(buzz bolt)

The horn on the Interstate is mounted in the front on the bolt that holds the crash bar

at the bottom on the right side.

If it's not there, the horn has been relocated by a previous owner.

I took it by the OP's comment about the "back bolt" that he was talking about the location that the std and tourer use.

This shouldnt be hard....even if it is mounted on the front frame bolt (not the buzz bolt) and the nut wont release from the bolt.....the most that should be needed is to tip the radiator forward (one little bolt) and there should be room to grab that bolt head without bending a wrench
