Today I finale decided that I'm going to start taking my bike apart to get it painted. It will take me 3 or 4 days to take it apart and remove all the stuff that's stuck to the body work and lights. I believe I'm going to do it in a metallic silver with black pin stripes. But I'll most likely change my mind a few times before I make a final decision. Found a paint shop that Highland Cycles uses so I've seen there work. Paul the owner had his 52 Chevy truck done there and has won awards for best paint. There giving me a good deal at $1400.00 for the paint and around $300.00 for the pin striping . I will have them pin stripe then clear over it. It will be an automotive quality paint that is used on Acura or Lexus cars. Going to do some maintenance on her as well such has steering stem bearings and such. So looks like she's going to be down for around a month.

Dave, I can do it with a couple of rattle cans and save you some money to go to Alaska next year. We don't even need to mask anything off. Just buy me lunch.

Dave, whatever you do don't take the suggestion to rattle can your bike............... 3" brushes are the only way to go. Waaaay less messy!
Your color choice and pinstriping sounds outstanding, looking forward to seeing the results.

You guy's are the best. With all your advice I can't go wrong. Also I ordered new Galfer brake lines. Pashnit is having a sale now. Buy the front lines and get the rear for free. I'm doing the clutch as well. http://www.pashnitmoto.com/ I'll post pictures of my progress.

Dave, since you don't have a ride scheduled for this month we can have a painting party at your house! Just pizza and beer for us Michaelangelo's. Everybody brings a rattle can of their favorite color.
Your buddy, Mike

Careful with that silver, it's fast! Your bike will be transformed into a quick silver bullet!

Saturday update:
Happy day today. I got the parts back from paint. I'm extremely happy the way they came out. It will certainly change the whole look of the bike and that is what I'm looking to do. My friend Pete came by and helped me with putting the fairing on and the front half of the rear fender. It seem though that I take two steps forward and have to take 1 step back. I also replace my rear wheel bearings and dampeners. Still waiting for the brake lines though and don't want to put on the rear wheel until I get them. It will just be a lot easier with the wheel off. Tuesday I pick up my new rear wheel rotor.

Sunday Fathers day update.
Today I started around 8:30 and tidied up a few wiring issues. Had to make a run to Chaparral for a quick parts run. I did get the back half of the rear fender on, turn lights, tool box, front fender, front wheel and the bottom half of the trunk also the windshield on the fairing. One thing I must say it's impossible to get those things on without getting a little scratch here and there. Luckily it's mostly in places you can't see where it would be a tight fit. I will get some touch up paint for it soon. Also the paint might be a bit soft for a while as well. Bike is looking Good for sure.

Another couple of day under my belt working on the bike. Today I installed the new alternator and center cover. I also got the pods and Baker Air wings on. Yesterday I took care of some more wiring and now have the saddle bags ready to go. Still waiting on the brake lines which should be here tomorrow. Also waiting on the rear rotor. If there's a problem getting it I could always use the old one. I decided not to go with the cruise control. I really don't want to put something on that may give me problems. I heard of some on the board and I just don't want to deal with it. I did do something dumb though. When I went to start the bike to make sure the alternator was working nothing happened. I thought to myself crap what did I do. I then realized that the bank angle switch was hanging as I hadn't put the center cover on yet. Straightened it out and she fired right up. Tomorrow I'm going going to service my K&N air filter and put a new fuel line from my Danmarc valve to the petcock. Then I start on the brake lines if they come with the mail.

Well today I got the front end all buttoned up. The brake lines came today and I must say Galfer makes a nice kit. Went together with no problems and the front brake feels good. Still waiting on the rotor for the rear. I have the brake line hooked up to the master cylinder but can't do the caliper until the wheel is on the bike. If I don't have it by Saturday I may put the old rotor back on so I can get the rear finished up. The clutch also has to wait until I can get the bike back on the ground as the lift is in the way. I service my air cleaner and installed new plugs. It's been a while since I had done the plugs and they where pretty bad. I'm sure she'll run much better now. I'll most likely sync the carbs too.

Today she's finally on the ground. I had to put the old rotor on the rear wheel as the new one is back ordered until the 30th. So I got the wheel on and the rear brake fluid bled for the new brake line. Tomorrow I change out the clutch line and put the tank on and she should be ready to roll. I'll post a picture or two on Sunday after a shake down run.
She is looking good.
