Hey everyone,

I am adding some gauges to my 2000 tourer.  I am wanting to replace the old idiot light sending units with the new autometer sending units.  The problem is that the threads don't work.  The threads on the bike seem to be just a tiny bit smaller than the threads on the senders.  The bike threads also, seem to be straight instead of tapered.  I need some help figuring out adapters for this.  I have never had a problem like this before, always been able to make it work without too much hassle.  Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Doug

These guys have the insight on adding gauges to the Valkyrie and the adapters to make it all work.

On mine i pulled the allen plug from the head, drilled out the center where the allen wrench fits, then threaded it with a 1/8 pipe tap. screwed the sending unit in, then put it back in the head. I used sealer on the plugs threads, as  I used the sending unit to tighten it. On the oil sending unit, just used a brass t fitting as I wanted to retain the idiot light also. I have done a couple bikes like this, no problems. Here is the last one. And these are not motosens gauges, bought the gauges from Amazon, 1 1/2 in had to machine the pods for them.

For coolant temperature, there is an unused boss on the thermostat housing that can be drilled and tapped for the gauge's sender. I've done this.

I did that for both my '00 I/S and my '00 Tourer when I had them. For the '01 I/S and '99 Tourer I went a different route and used the Motosens adapters for the sending units. I/S got a complete Stewart-Warner analog gauge set while the Tourer got a set of cool blue digital combo gauges, including a homebrewed bar-graph fuel level indicator. I'll post some pics of the setups later in the thread.
