This was at 8 am this morning.

This was a 3 pm this afternoon.

Just have to do the rear fender and tool box.
It was a lot harder then I thought. I had to do some repairs to the fairing  and some other parts. Not to bad considering 130,000 miles and 15 years of riding.
Man I sure hope I can remember how it all goes back together!

Well today I got the rear fenders off and the swing arm. I replaced the bearings in the swing arm and reinstalled. Not to bad a job i guess. Pulled the brake lines in the rear as well. Waiting for the new ones. Tomorrow I will take the parts to paint and have my new rear tire put on. Then to Chaparral for some parts that are needed.

Dave did you replace the swing arm bearings because of an issue or because of miles and had it apart?

Rob, I only did it because I already had it apart and at 130,000 miles I figured what the heck. There was no play in the swing arm that I could feel. I'm also going to put on my lower mileage final drive (20,000 miles or less I believe), new drive shaft and one of my rebuild able u joints.  I've always had a vibration at speeds over 85mph and just wanted to see if there is any difference. I know we don't always go that fast but it still bothered me just the same. Wednesday I think I going to do the steering stem bearings. I must say I'm learning more and more about this great bike. I thought about doing the clutch but it seems to be fine and I don't abuse it by any means. Dolor has over 300,000 miles on his clutch with no issues. I also know of many 1500 wings with high miles and no clutch problems. One of those things that if it ain't broke don't fix it I guess.

Sounds like a good plan Dave. You have a u-joint that is rebuildable? Did you make it or have it made ? Is it one of the ones that was posted about a couple of years ago? Sounds interesting , looking forward to hear how it works out cooldude

If you go on the tech board it shows how it's done. I had a friend do mine and I asked him if he would do others. He said that he didn't want to get into that and he did it for me because I am a friend. He's to busy with his work to do this. If you get it done you need a buy a Moog or Precision part no. 392.

Your right Rob, really looking forward to this. It will seem like a new bike to me. I'm also going to ad a cruise control to her. I got one free a few month ago and Mike is going to help me put it in. He's done a few of them and knows all the tricks.

I only have 60K+ on my Valk and had BigBF replace the steering bearings when I put on the new tires. What a difference! He said that although they didn't really show signs of wear there was a flat spot. Have fun.

good for you Dave.  nice to get all those things serviced and looked at.  looking forward to seeing the new paint.  want to know what you think of the Galfer brake and clutch lines.  I can definitely tell a difference with the ones you helped replace on my bike a couple years ago.

Dave, just got back from 3800 miles over ten days and you will LOVE cruise control. So nice to have a constant speed rather than up and down.

Well I took everything off to paint today. 23 pieces total to be done. I'm getting excited now. I started doing the steering stem bearings today and will finish them up tomorrow. It is a bit of a pain to get the lower race out. Tomorrow I tackle the lower bearings themselves and I heard it can be a bit of a challenge as well. Learning more everyday and really enjoying it. Thursday I will start to clean things up to reassemble when I can. Mike is going to come over next week to help me with the Cruse control. I found that I need a new rear brake rotor so I got one of those coming as well. I went with the EBC because it's a third the price of a OEM honda. We'll see how it does over time and If I made the right move. I changed my mind on the color and It will be a secret until the bike is complete.

What did I do today? coolsmiley Well I'll tell you. Today I finished up the steering stem bearings. It actually wasn't that bad. I watched a couple of youtube videos that helped me with some of it. Then I took a break with my friend Rich and went to a couple of gun stores to look around. When I got back it was off to Home Depot for some sand paper and steel wool to clean and polish my lower fork tubes. I then took off my pod lights as I'm not going to use them anymore. I just didn't have the heart to cut holes in my new pods so I'm going a different route. They still work so I will most likely sell them. Tomorrow is back to cleaning and polishing. I must say I'm really enjoying myself with this little project. Grin Later I'm going to switch out my exhaust for some almost new Tourer exhaust. In the near future I'm going to put truck stacks on them. Had them before and always liked the look. I switched back thinking I could ride without earplugs but I couldn't anyway.

Today I took it a little easy. All I did was polish my fork lowers, which was a big improvment.

Then I cleaned up some of the parts that never see the light of day.

and finally I cleaned front brake calipers and put new pads on. Still waiting for the brake lines. I called them and they said that they should ship next Tuesday.  They told me that they have to build them as they don't just have them hanging on the shelf.
