Bought a 1998 Tourer. Is the gas tank same size as Std. or is same size as I/S. also this tourer has the  Honda leather bags. Which i thought was odd. He said bought it from a guy that way. Didnt know if they offered not having the hard side bags or the guy changed hem out to Honda leather.

Fuel tank is the same as the Std.  The neck tag should  read GL1500 C- CT-CF  in small print before the large print year.  Maybe a Std with hondaline shield and the soft bags??

a tourer (CT as noted by YP) came w/hard bags and a hondaline windshield anything else and its a std with a shield and bags or Ct parts sold off and lower cost items put on.
I/S tank fits no problems except for some aftermarket seats which would require slight mod to seat.

my '98 std now has I/S tank and saddlebags with CT lid hardware.
Enjoy!

Also, you can check to see if there's a reflector on the upper/center part of the rear fender.  Standards had their rear reflector located there....tourers had the reflector located on the saddlebags.

Pics would help.

+1 on the pictures and the tag information.  I'm curious as heck.  What are the options for the buyer of a misrepresented bike?  I'm guessing nothing unless the buyer could prove the seller was aware.

Doesn't the tourer have "Tourer" on the garnish on the front of the windshield too? And a Standard with an added windshield not?

There is general confusion among the general public on standard versus tourer, so I would not fault the seller for calling it a tourer.

You do not know the difference, you asked the question, so he may well not of either.  Common mistake, until you are "in the know".

Not a big deal.  Hard bags are nice, but I assume you knew it had soft bags when you bought it?  If so, you knew what you were buying.  Now, it is just clarification on the exact model you have.

Did the 97 Tourer have Tourer on the windshield? I know the 98's did.

97 did not have tourer on the windshield. Does have it on the bottom of the bags though.
