What is this small black plastic box called a secondary air supply system? its on the right side and sits behind the frame rail, at the back of the fuel tank, directly behind the ignition switch, it has a hose coming from the airbox and 2 hoses coming off, one appears to be drain line and the other is larger and goes straight down into the crankcase-which on my bike, that connection looks like it leaked at some point and is a little corroded, this is really why i want to know whats going on with this thing,(heck when i first saw it i thought it was a part of the cooling system). The manual says to inspect the secondary air intake port at the bottom of the air box and if its clogged with carbon then check the pair check valves. okay, so does that mean this secondary air box is related to emissions? I haven't found any references to removing this particular piece in desmogging, infact i cant find anything about it at all, wtf? is there a filter in it or does it rely on the airbox filter?  what does desmoging and removing all the pair junk do for this piece? why the large hose going into the crankcase?!  now i realize this isn't going to get the response as say an obama-mama-is-not-a-mama video, but help me out here, its driving me just as nutz!!

as far as I know it's just a crank case breather.

If it says check the pare valves, then it's emissions. I did the de-smog this spring and there's a bunch of stuff connected to the pare valve system, even more if it's a California bike.

It is a crankcase breather, but it is also an oil vapor separator. the lightest oil vapors and crankcase breathing/blowby will be directed into the air box, and any oil will be drained into the drain hose which must be uncapped and drained every once in awhile. "Dragon Drool", the drain hose is on right side of the bike, it is the one with the cap in it.

I removed the hose that connects the CCV canister to the air box. I capped the port on the air box and installed a very small K&N filter on the CCV canister where the hose to the air box connected. I did this because I am not big on my engine breathing in it's own farts, hot oil contaminated farts.
