Got home from Inzane ok. Got some maintenance to look forward too. Here's what I'm looking at: speedo gear replace front brake pads tires front and rear.
Going to do most of it myself, looking for the best/least expensive place to get: speedo gear brake pads (oem, local stealer only has EBC) o-rings and thrust washer for rear end set of Avon Cobra's
Would like to order them in the next couple weeks as I got vacation coming up in July. Also, let me know if I'm forgetting anything. Thanks in advance.

IMO Honda on all parts except the tires of course. Honda Parts direct, though some use Honda Direct line (Ohio I think??). Veri similar. I'm in Texas so the Honda Parts Direct ship mostly from Palestine Tx, so I get good delivery. http://www.hondaparts-direct.com/Tires I use Bike Bandit. ( http://www.bikebandit.com) Good shipping (They direct ship from all over), and god pricing. Can find cheaper, but I've been happy with what 've received. An Avon Cobra I got from another site arrved as a "blem".

Once you have your part numbers and tires, always start with Amazon. I have only rarely beat Amazon prices on anything, and often free shipping. Honda parts not on amazon, go to Honda, somewhere. Amazon always has my tires, car or bike. Here's your O-rings (not thrust washer, that's honda). http://www.carolinabikeandtrike.com/ORings.htm

Compare Avon tire prices to what Jake Wilson is asking for them.

Remember when you order tires, you have to pay for mounting/balancing. My local shop includes M/B with a tire price. This is always cheaper than mail order plus mounting/balancing.

Sandy, that really varies with the shop. Around here, every dealer is way higher on tires than on-line (like 40 percent higher). Even if I have to pay a bit more to mount and balance tires I bring in ($20), I am still ahead quite a bit. I have tried to give local shops a chance to match price (including mount and balance) and they can't do it. And of course, they don't carry Goodyears.

Appreciate the thought...but some of us mount and balance our own tires. Ya can't beat free.

Was looking at partzilla and they list two different part #'s for front brake pads??? Wouldn't you just need two sets of the same ones like in valkorados post? Also, would #18 in this diagram be the teflon thrust washer? Thanks for your help, I'm old and easily confused... http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/Motorcycle/1999/GL1500C+A/FINAL+DRIVEN+GEAR/parts.html

There's nothing wrong with replacing the thrust washer, and it is a BIG mistake to leave it out...
But... now that I have changed a few tires, I don't think I ever saw a thrust washer that seemed worn out...

Having one on hand per Dan Meyer's recommendation. Cheap insurance in case I lose the one that's in there or in case it's missing when I open her up.

OK! Ready for some wrenching!!! Got speedo gear, thrust washer, and air filter from partzilla: front brake pads from e-bay: o-rings from carolina bikeandtrike. Just waiting to here from a local shop about tire prices. If he can come close to internet pricing with a mount/balance job we're good! Vacation starts 6/27!

I only go with denniskirk for tires. I have gotten my last 2 tires with in 36 hours of ordering them, and they had great date codes. They were also cheaper than alot of the other sites i have seen.
HDL for honda parts if i had a bunch, like brake pads and thrush washers.
carolina bike and trike is the best place ever for the o-rings.

Local shop that's doing the mounting came within $25 of the cheapest tire price I could find on the internet and he guarantees they will be "fresh". I will check the dates. Everything is here except the o-rings. One more week and I GET THE GARAGE!!!
