1984

There just might be something in it for me crazy2

This is straight off of Whitehouse.gov

"There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care.   These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.   Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."

Is that a black helicopter circling over head?

won't be too long til the kiddie corps gets asked to tell what their parents are doing about health care.

will they break down doors and drag away the uninsured or the insured who are paying their own way?

It isn't the same country we grew up in. I cannot believe what is happening and the huge number of people who are clueless.

Instead of having someone snitch on us, we should just slam the address with what we think.  Unfortunately, people have fear of retaliation.  How un-American is that.  Fear of retaliation from our own government.  Sad.

Maybe e-mail from cyber cafes, libraries, and othe public hot spots.

"The White House is in bit of a conundrum because of this privacy statute that prohibits the White House from collecting data and storing it on people who disagree with it," Judge Andrew Napolitano, a FOX News analyst, said Friday.

"There's also a statute that requires the White House to retain all communications that it receives. It can't try to rewrite history by pretending it didn't receive anything," he said.

"If the White House deletes anything, it violates one statute. If the White House collects data on the free speech, it violates another statute."

Napolitano was referring to the Privacy Act of 1974, which was passed after the Nixon administration used federal agencies to illegally investigate individuals for political purposes. Enacted after Richard Nixon's resignation in the Watergate scandal, the statute generally prohibits any federal agency from maintaining records on individuals exercising their right to free speech.

The White House has been under fire since it posted a blog on Tuesday that asked supporters to e-mail any "fishy" information seen on the Web or received electronically to flag@whitehouse.gov.

It is a sad example of the paranoia the new administration exhibits.  Our freedoms will be taken away one by one until we stop it ourselves.  I feel confident that this will only last 4 years and the American public will again right the ship.  As long as the term limits are not f'd with!

This is the US government we are talking about!  They are asking for snitches to see who is putting out info that is contrary to what they want released to the public.  You don't have a problem with that?

I try to make my own personal opinion on such issues by seeing what my reaction would be if the "other side" had done something similar...

If the previous administration had set up an e-mail address (Although, they weren't as technically advanced, so it would have most likely been a P.O. box) and asked for people to turn in the names, e-mail addresses, IP address of the computer used by, any American who sends e-mails about how the Patriot Act should be stopped, or why Gitmo should be shut down, or any of the other hot button issues of the day, I'd be hot as  Evil about it... I wouldn't trust Bush/Cheney and friends to be gathering that information for honest purposes...

On the flip side, I don't trust the current administration any further than I trusted the last one...

Sinister? Probably not in this case... But it's up to those so-called tin-foil wearing hat types to keep the rest of us on our toes and look for things that the government really has no business doing... Sinister or not, it's not a good thing, IMHO...

What is illegal Chris?  Is there anywhere the website asks for any of the info that some folks are conjuring up? If so, could you point it out?

Man, it's truly amazing to watch people get wrapped around the axle over zippola.  Very informative. Time to invest in Tinfoil....

What pisses me off is when the school system forces our kids to have all these vaccines.  The one I’m going to fight tooth and nail is the HPV vaccine that they’re going to require for all college female freshmen in a few years.  I would like someone to explain to me how this isn’t “forced” health care.  When people get used to being told what’s good for them, then being told that it’s time to die won’t be anything that they’ll argue against.

Does anyone else see what kind of slippery slope they’re building for us?  Or am I all alone on this one?

Its against a fairly new constitutional statute that prohibits the President especially from collecting such data......one reason is they cant delete any of it without violating another statute so they are in a cunundrum (sp) about what to do with anything that has already been sent and whether or not they should have collected it in the first place.  Just another example of a numb nuts government not thinking something through, worse yet, not knowing better in the first place

What data is that Chris? Once again, can you point out where they are asking for that personal data?

From what I've seen, they asked for examples of disinformation about the healthcare proposal to be forwarded so they could refute or clarify.

As far as collecting data, when they start unconstitutionally wiretapping our phones without warrants then I'd be concerned - http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/washingtondc/la-na-wiretap11-2009jul11,0,1989283.story

Or maybe asking people to report any "suspicious activities"? Oh wait, that's the previous administration

About the statutes - maybe they could just have 5,000,000 emails magically disappear - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_White_House_e-mail_controversy

Does everyone realize that for years based on the patriot act the federal government could read your e-mails, so if you were on aol or hotmail, yahoo etc any thing you typed could be read w/o a warrant. All they had to do was declare you a person of interest.

Nothing you have any more is private, to much technology!!!!

So Scanner, you are saying that since you think Bush did worse things, then this is ok for Obama.  Well, maybe lots of people may agree......I just thought since Obama got elected on a platform of change and NOT like Bush, that maybe he would be above this kind of thing, but I guess not

I hope you aren't holding your breath. It's good business fomenting mistrust of the guberment. The Healthcare lobbies are spending over a million dollars a day to prevent any sort of universal healthcare law ever becoming reality. Why? Money! Greed!
In the mean time while Americans are paying out the nose for healthcare, our country  is the only 1st world country without a Universal Healthcare system.

Fact One: The United States ranks 23rd in infant mortality, down from 12th in 1960 and 21st in 1990

Fact Two: The United States ranks 20th in life expectancy for women down from 1st in 1945 and 13th in 1960

Fact Three: The United States ranks 21st in life expectancy for men down from 1st in 1945 and 17th in 1960.

Fact Four: The United States ranks between 50th and 100th in immunizations depending on the immunization. Overall US is 67th, right behind Botswana

Fact Five: Outcome studies on a variety of diseases, such as coronary artery disease, and renal failure show the United States to rank below Canada and a wide variety of industrialized nations.

Conclusion: The United States ranks poorly relative to other industrialized nations in health care despite having the best trained health care providers and the best medical infrastructure of any industrialized nation

I for one believe you can make any point you want with statistics.  But, I also believe most of those numbers....people dying of various terrible things are more a result of personal lifestyle chioices rather than the fact we dont have universal health care.

If you live on McDonalds and twinkies and you never exercise, you cannot blame the format of the healthcare system for your early heart attack

/quote]

I am trying to take the middle of the road on this healthcare thing, our system as is not great but it works for some, it is great for big insurance companies such as United Health Care which made a one billion dollar profit last year while most people are paying more for less benefits everyday. It is hard to know which side to believe because all politicians tell you what is best for them. The guy who has been hired by the Insurance lobby to fight not only this bill but any change in our system is Rick Scott, he is a theif whose company, which he started any ran had to pay back the tax payer $1.67 billion in medicare fraud. I not sure but I bet if any of us knowingly stold $500 from taxpayers we would be punished. You can read about Mr. Scott and his company Columbia Hospitals and what they did anywhere. I don't like government taking my money but Insurance companies do it now and don't have to play by the same rules as us normal working people do. Here is another stat for people who think numbers are important. I recently went looking for my own health insurance because the school district I work for allowed Blue Cross Blue Shield to raise our deductible from $750 to $2500 dollars per individual. I called and spoke to several companies before speaking to a person I know who sells health insurance for guess who BCBS. He relayed to me that the average health insurance deductible for major employers is now over $2000 on their polices, up from $500 5 years ago. It seems to me that we all are stuck in between multiple powers who are struggling for control of a very lucrative money making system and I am not sure either has the average guys interest at heart. I don't blame either political party, both have approached the problem differently in the past and neither one has not made the system work. There is no way that in this great country 50 million people old and young should be with out any form of healthcare while a single insurance company makes a billion dollar profit, kind of reminds me of paying $4 for a gallon of gas while Exxon Mobil states it is because of the middle east problem while they (Exxon) makes the largest profit of any private company in one year, in the history of mankind.

I fully agree! Let Darwinism take it's course! If you are to lazy or stupid to take care of yourself and make plans for your future, you are, by the laws of nature, supposed to fall behind the herd of the stronger and smarter and be consumed.
It natures plan. I'm ok with that. I have worked my ass off to get where I am and I HATE the thought of a lazy crack head having the exact same health care as I do.
Why work harder if I have to share my fruit with people waiting to share my wealth?
