Peaches. Lots of 'em.

I mean LOTS!

There are three peach trees in our backyard at the Old Vic. It's a bumper crop. They are are bowed to the ground with peaches. Some branches even broke.

They were not quite ripe last weekend, but they were close and many were falling anyway...making it quite interesting when I was weed-eating under the trees...

Bzzzzzzzzzz splat splut splatter SPLUT SPLATTER SPLAT splat splut splatter SPLUT SPLATTER SPLAT! Gack!

(from the wife): "You smell like peaches!"

(me licking my lips): "I taste like peaches too!"

Anyway, we expect this weekend they will be ready. We found a couple ripe ones and they were delicious.

Not sure what we're going to do with them all. I suppose I'll work on making myself sick on peaches this weekend!

I'll post pictures when we get back!

Allow me to broker a deal:
Halfway point hand-off of as many peaches that can be carried on the bike (be creative Daniel... she needs a lot of peaches).
One week later, 1 Peach Cobbler and 1 Peach Pie will be handed off going the other direction.
Halfway point is indicated on the map below.

Standard brokering fee applies... or, in lieu of that, just ship me a famous Motomama Cobbler.   crazy2

You can pick them a little green. They will rippen on their own. BTY, I make a killer dutch oven peach cobbler. Can be done in the house oven as well. Cut up about 4-6 cups peaches. Add sugar, let set overnight in the fridge. Mix 1&1/2 boxes yellow cake mix in with peaches and juice. Add tablespoon brown sugar. Add a pinch of cinnamon. Mix lightly. Use butter to grease dutch oven or baking pan. Pour in ingredients. Top with other 1/2 of cake mix, do not mix it in. Add melted butter on top. To cook in dutch oven, before you start putting everything together, light enough charcoal to put under and on top of the oven. They will be ready by the time you get the mix together. Cook about 45 minutes. If baking in conventional oven, preheat to 400 and cook for about 45 minutes. Check it every once in awhile to make sure it doesn't burn but that is okay too. And homemade icecream with it is to die for.
Let me know if you try it.

I promised pictures...

The most productive tree...it's about a 25 footer. It had TONS of large peaches.

This tree is weighed down with them, but they are all very small (very tasty though!)

The bigger tree again...this limb is strained to the breaking point. There are already hundreds on the ground.

YUM!

About 12 pounds or so...

Twenty minutes work racked up about 50 pounds or so, all off the big tree. It still looked like I hadn't touched it.

We gave away most of those to friends and neighbors...and picked that many yet again to bring home and freeze. There are still hundreds on the tree...and had we been at the house over the last couple weeks continiously (instead of just the weekend) we could have gotten many that fell to the ground (before they fell).

Oh, and none of this counts the dozen or more I ate during my various labors this weekend!
