I was talking to a HD enthusiast over the weekend, and he informed me that there was some universal superstition against green HDs.  I had never heard that before.  I've seen plenty of green bikes of other makes (can you say Kawasaki?)  Hell, I have a green/silver IS in the garage.  Any idea whether this is truly universal to that brand, and if so, what causes it?

Green Motorcycles

Supposedly, a green painted motorcycle is bad luck. The legend has it that the Harleys used in World War II were often sitting duck targets, and many military riders got their butts blasted off them. And since they were painted Army green, it eventually translated into modern folklore.

This one might actually be true. I know a guy who had a green Road Glide, and dropped it several times, one time injuring his leg. Then he got the bike repainted, with a different shade of green, and wiped out on it again. From what I could recall, when his bike still had the factory black, he never crashed it.

I never heard that about scooters, but green race cars were a definite NO NO years ago. (Late 50’s early 60’s)

I had heard the same thing back in the '70s "Bad Luck Green" about race cars. I had a green 1974 360 honda and was nothing but lucky on that bike!

I can confirm that superstition.  Every green bike I have owned has been totaled twice.

I'll get another green one someday, but then I like to live life on the edge.

If you have a green Interstate I'd be interested in it.  Can't give you much, though, with it being green and all.

MGM is Green/Creme, and I've had no bad luck with it in 242,000+  miles.

Just the normal parts replaced..........  Tires, rear end, brakes, front rotors, starter relay melted.    I call that all normal wear................

Green race car...............    wasn't a no no at the Oakland, CA race track in the early 50's.      It was top points leader two season's in a row.   # on side was Double 0.

I'd say it is old wives tails.    coolsmiley tickedoff 2funny cooldude

If you are interested, I'll give you a good deal on it...
I'm now scared of green.  It's obviously bad luck, and I won't ride it.

Thanks, Mark.  Due to the state of my current fiscal responsibilities and my concern for the color, I can only offer you about $600, but I will take the curse away with me.    Cheesy

What about all the "British racing green" Jaguars?
saw a bunch at Lime Rock, Thompson, Sebring, Riverside, and the Glen.

You know, I think I figured it out.  I now know why the green ones are considered bad luck by certain bikers:
They just can't handle that much SPEED!!!!
I'll keep my green one, thanks for the offers, though.

(God, I wish it would start...)

Good for you!  (And they say it's not rocket science.)

We could use some pictures of those unhaunted green machines.  Here are a few of mine.

Oh, wait!  That last one wasn't the green bike.  I guess I just got carried away.

Had a lot of people tell me about painting a bike Green.  With mie its all in how you look at it.  Depending on the cloud cover or how the sun hits it ( or how fast its going) it shines from gold to bronze to green.  If I lived by superstistions I would have been dead long ago!  Grin

In the world of Kawasaki they always say the green ones are faster.  The way i saw it, this was my first kawi when I bought my rex and I couldn't bring my self to have a green one

I could see where green might be harder for cages to see, you know, blending in with the foliage, kind of a cammo effect.  Like why they don't make green golf balls.
