Author Topic: Metal (steel or aluminum) rear brake reservoir (not a cover)  (Read 1586 times)

I'd like to replace the rear brake reservoir with a metallic one.

Of the many unfortunate incidents since having bought my 2000 valkyrie last fall, I recently broke my rear brake reservoir cover while cleaning the bike (I leaned on it accidentally while trying to wash the pipes).

These covers aren't cheap, apparently.  I could glue it, but endurance is a concern. I've been riding without the cover for a bit.  It doesn't look bad without it (in fact, I like it), but I'd love to swap out the plastic reservoir for a metal one.  Has anyone attempted it?  Scouring the web, it doesn't seem people have done it (and it certainly doesn't seem available on the aftermarket).  I did find a few reservoirs from other bikes (Harley/Indian) that I think may work.

Any advice/comments welcome.

There is no reason why you couldn't do it if you want eight_pockets,, the right reservoir might look cool, but you may be going into the water by yourself if you do.  Sure would like to see a picture of what you come up with if it gets done.

Mine has been broken Numerous times (2, 4year old boys that like to climb on and off the bike) I've fixed it with super glue a few times then fixed it with redneck carbon fiber by embedding a scrap of red shop rag into the super glue the last time I repaired it.  Its still going and looks just fine.

YoungPup, I love it!  I wouldn't have thought to do that fiber reinforcement.  Great idea!

Cobra made a fluted chrome billet cover for the rear brake reservoir but you don't see many of them.

They looked like this:

Here is a place that may have some old stock, call them:

I think I have one or two take-offs from the various Valkyries I've owned over the years. Make me an offer I won't refuse.

Reservoir < 25$
Mount Braket < 50$

The solution (looks better than the chrome cover, IMHO).  Hex screws ensure no stripping:

The reservoir came from China.  Works well (it's been tested for only about 10 miles of aggressive rear brake use).  No leaks (so far).  One qualm - the "Max / Min" on the other side are mirror imaged, but the way I've mounted it, you'd never know.

Awesome!  Where were you when I first posted!  That last one would have been perfect (I wanted a sight glass at least).  Oh well... the solution I have works pretty well, but thanks especially for that last site.
