I have an Interstate with stock exhaust plus the pigs cut. I am not a fan of the stock tips, the flattened look. Is it possible to replace them with just some pieces of chrome pipe. Anything that is 4 inch inside diameter should fit right? I could measure and drill holes for the mounting bolts. Is there anything I'm missing that would prevent this from working? Thanks guys.   cooldude

Do a search in this tech section using "truck stacks" and you'll see plenty of links that will give you lots of good info. Many use http://www.airflo.com/valkyrie.html these with great results.

Cobra made exhaust tips for the Valk. They made a tip with 45 degree cut and also a tip that tapered down to 3 inches, they are hard to find. I might sell a set.

That's kind of what I'm looking for. I don't mind the stock exhaust (piggies cut) as far as sound goes  I just want to modify the look. I like the 'howitzer' style that comes out behind the fender a little, but don't want to spend a fortune on the whole muffler set up.

Air Flow 18" flat cut stacks/tips is a big upgrade from stock tips.

About 2" past OE bags.

Cheapest money I ever spent on exhaust.  (They were $42 a side when I got mine)

Heavy stock.  You have to drill them for bolts.  Has three, two will do.

I like flat cuts better than turnouts, or slash-cuts (and think they are a bit quieter as noise is directed straight back, not bounced off the tarmac and/or sideways.

Just to beat the dead horse a little more... Roll Eyes

The 18" pipes tips will only replace the rear section that unbolts? I won't need to cut the slot out for the mounts as the directions show on airflo's site? I just want to be sure before I order as they are heavy and I'm sure expensive to ship for a return/exchange.

Hope you don't mind me borrowing your pic, Jack. Grin

Correct.  Air Flow's link to Tim Skelton's site is in error for a simple 18" tip install.  Skelton's how-to is for full length replacement pipes, not just tips.

Pull yours (clean carbon), mock up a 4" cardboard/construction paper tube, slide it over the pipe ends and poke holes where the bolt holes are, transfer the marks to the new tips, use a center punch to slightly ding a starter point (or the bit will travel and scratch badly), drill first with a sharp eighth inch bit, then drill the final quarter inch (or so, can't remember) hole.  They are a tight fit, I had to cover the end with a piece of soft pine and tap them on with a rubber mallet. I think two (of three) screws is sufficient to hold them on forever.  If you have measured and done it right the seam from pipe to tip almost disappears; if you don't get a flush fit, you can remedy it by slightly elongating the hole a bit to the rear (bolt head will cover).

It is possible to drag them at the very ends if you turn sharply on the way down a steep apron or driveway.  And you need to pay attention backing down on curbs; my pipes almost always clear curbs (straight and level), but sometimes it is very close, and when you set the bike over on the kickstand, it can lay the left pipe on the curb.
