East China Mi.

« on: July 05, 2014, 04:55:14 PM »

Hi to all on the Texas site!
I'm Larry Gill (AKA firea100) from East China Mi.
I have the privilege of being here for about 3 weeks to attend a school near the DFW Airport.
Had a great time with Christbiker (Woody) in Weston for the 4th of July Parade yesterday.
Special thanks go out to Chauffer for "chaufferring" my butt through all of the gravel roads and  slow riding in formation through town. That was actually the first time I've ever been "second seat on a bike!
Again my thanks goes out to all that greeted me with your very warm "hello, glad you could make it"!!!

Now for my Question: I've picked up a 1988 Goldwing/ MotorTrike Trike from a lady in Mansfield.
The trike is somewhat taken apart, half of the tupperware is removed. It's been sitting for over 7 years in this state. Supposedly the trike quit running then and her nephew "determined" that there was a "bad piston" in the motor. Well, as i've been sitting in my hotel room with nothing to do, I've been fussing around with the trike in the back lot. I do have one spark plug that has been hammered pretty badly. I haven't messed with the timing cover yet, but I do suspect a bad timing belt. Traditionally, what usually happens to the internals of the motor when this happens? I understand that this is an interference motor and that "something" has "touched" something else when the belt goes away. The motor still holds oil... antifreeze, I'm not sure. Am I looking at a new head or a new motor?
The trike has 84K showing.

So if anyone has some free time and wants to take a look at my "project" I'd be happy to drag it over to your place or we could just meet someplace to look it over!

I'm waiting to see info on your July meeting. I'd like to attend if timing allows.

Thanks for listening,
Larry from East China Mi. currently at the Comfort Inn at DFW

If one of the moderators wants to move this post to the Texas website, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks, Larry
