I highly recommend cutting W/S it will be much easier than modifying the mount for the entire fairing. A lot of people cut the W/S or just purchase a shorter one. There are several W/S options out there.

First I protect the W/S with the blue painters masking tape because it comes off easily and leaves no residue to clean off and then I cover the blue masking tape with several layers of duct tape because it is much more durable. Then when I am done cutting and sanding with a power sander I carefully heat the edge with a torch to make look like a factory cut, be careful though a touch of heat to the surface will cause it to bubble and there is no way to fix the bubbles.
