Ya never know how many good Summers ya have left.

« on: January 22, 2009, 05:13:34 PM »

FB and I went to town this morning at 0900 hrs, came home at 1130hrs and found that someone came on our back patio and stole the keg of beer from the fridge..... cut the co2 hose and the hose to the pull tap..... beer ALL over the place on the floor.... they were TOO stupid to lift the tap and take the keg..... will cost about $250 to replace and fix everything. Called the county sheriff and made a report. He asked if I wanted to file charges... Hell Yeah.... The same thing happened Christmas Eve a year ago... we walked to the neighbors and were gone 2 hours... came back and the keg, tapper, co2 bottle and regulator were gone. Cost $400 to replace everything then. Chaps my Butt... Someone is watching for us to be gone, and ripping us off. They are taking a hell of a chance...if I catch 'em.....

That sucks! There's a special place in hell for thieves.

Get ya a webcam setup...they can stream frame video to record on your harddrive on your computer. Not terribly expensive and you can check it out if something else vanishes.

I agree the 12 gauge is more effective, but only if you are home.
Daniels set-up is easy and works around the clock.
Sorry to hear that this happened to you.

Major bummer, Mark. ! I wish I lived close enough to volunteer to do a shift. I would not be surprised if it was the same person both times?

I got video tape of a guy slashing my tires and got no action from my local authorities. i hope you have more pull with your boys in blue. I can sure see where they are busy "frying higher priority fish".

Do you already have motion detector lights? How bout a lock on the refer? Sad things have come to such defensive action. ~Jeff

Hey Jeff, Yeah, we have motion detector lights and alarms that buzz in the house..... and they work, but you have to be here to know it.  Installed them and a lock on the fridge after we were hit a little over a year ago.  After a year, we got lazy about locking the fridge unless we were leaving for more than a day.....even put an inline valve on the beer line inside the fridge... kept finding the keg empty.......
I really think it's kids.  NOTHING else on the patio is missing and there is a lot of stuff out there..... they just want the beer.

Maybe with all the "TECH" people that will be at the "Gathering of The Fools" a camera install
would be no problem.
Just a thought.

I know it is against the law to booby trap, but I wonder if you could poison the beer without legal consequence to you? Maybe do like they do with bank robbers and planting ink bomb sprays in the money? Yea, I think we are on to something! Have a floor pad switch under a rug in front of the refer that actuates paint/ink that sprays at face level or maybe better, unless they are wearing a hat, a straight shot downward from the rafters would get their hair. "Two axis spray, that will do it! Or, how 'bout a "lock in" that holds them like the bait cars do car thieves? It could be designed like a big ole slinky that descends from above?

I still like the shot gun solution best! ~Jeff

Would it be illegal, or just really funny, to fill a keg with something that looks like beer but tastes like equine or bovine urine?  When I was a kid, one of my friend's lunch was repeatedly stolen out of her school locker.  All it took was one Alpo & Tabasco sandwich...

Far as I know, it wouldn't be illegal to store something yucky in an used beer keg, as long as it is not offered to others.  Not toxic, not dangerous, just nasty tasting.

Years ago, a friend of a friend got tired of having his gas can stolen from the back of his truck (knew who took it but couldn't prove it).  So, after consulting his local police, he put yet another gas can in the back of his truck -- and sugared the gas pretty heavily.  He did get some satisfaction in seeing the thief's car up on jacks as he had to clean it out of his engine.

Since the gas can was NOT offered for public use, there wasn't a problem.

Same thing I did 30 years ago....  someone kept stealing gas out of my dumptruck side tank.....Blocked off the valve to that tank and put 5# of sugar in it.... Their engine should have siezed up within about 5 miles.....never had any more gas stolen from the truck.....
Problem is... I dose the keg.... and forget about it... ya know I'm gettin a few years on me and the say that the memory is the 2nd thing that goes..... I can't recall what the 1st one was.... I'd probably be the 1st to drink from the tainted keg.....

That would be just too cruel and might lead to criminal charges.....
