Headlights question

I've searched the forum and the service manual and can't seem to find the answer to this question.

When using lowbeam are both headlights on?  I just noticed the other day that on low beam only my right headlight is lit.

When you say both... Do you have an Interstate model Valkyrie?

If so YES, both head right and left side are on in LOW or on in HIGH.

To confirm this look at the electrical schematic, the Interstate headlights are on Relay and split power to each headlamp at the connect inside the fairing.

Thanks guys, yes, it's an Interstate so apparently both should be on.  I thought as much but was second guessing myself.  Looks like it's time for a bulb change.

Get two and change them both.

The other bulb is sure to go soon, at least that's my experience.

Also, I'd suggest to stay away from high wattage bulbs.  The

extra heat from them can cause a problem with the headlight case.

Going with the standard OEM replacement bulbs Ricky.  45/45 I believe.  I think I might also have a couple of spares socked away already.  Just have to find where I socked them!

I have had no problem with the 50/60 bulbs and have used them for 10 years. I also run high beams all the time during the day.

If you are changing bulbs, I highly recommend you go to the Ho/Lo beam 60/55 W bulbs......they will give a significantly more amount of light at night without washing out hwy/street signs due to too much reflectivity on the signs......well worth it..if you don't drive at night....then any will do.

Buy the stock car bulb, I forget it that is the H3 or H4, not the OEM. Honda wants too much for them. You break off the two lower tabs.

Some sell the ring that you are supposed to mount over top of the bulb to hold it down, but most don't bother and have reported no problems.

Also, get someone with small hands, wife/child, and have them fit it in. Don't touch the glass. I clean it off with alcohol first, and then use gloves to I don't leave oil behind on the glass.

I don't ride after dark unless I'm traveling I live in a area with very big deer population.
Read an article about headlight bulbs losing brightness as they age. Figured my 98 Valkyrie had it's factory bulb so I changed it and what an improvement. I used a Philips brand 9003/H4. The back of the card has it at 67/60W. Made me want to ride at night.

The deer on the road are a PITA and should be served with gravy and potatoes. The dear at home must be listened to. Put relays in and run any H4 wattage bulb you are happy with. I added low height running lights that outshine any headlights but still tuck in behind cages when traveling at night hoping they will act as deer intermediaries.
