Just returned from a 850 mile road trip and noticed, after parking, that there was a small amount of gas (the size of quarter) under the gas drain hose.  Should I be concerned?

Thanks,
Marty

I like to say "once doesn't make a statistic".

I wouldn't worry or even look it over until it happens more often. It could be lots of nothing.

If it happens again, pay attention to how full the tank is, the temp of the fuel, there must be more, but I can't think of it right now.

Whenever you get a leak/drip/seep anywhere (if it concerns you), you should play Sherlock Holmes ASAP while things are still wet and try to discover where it came from.  Use light and patience, and follow gravity uphill.  (Though airflow blows stuff around, like fork oil)

When you say "Gas drain hose", are you referring to the 6 hoses from the carb bowls that "T" into a single hose? That's the only gas drain hose I know of. If so, I'm assuming the gas drip was on the floor, which means the gas could have been dripping the whole ride. If my assumptions are correct, it's easy enough to take a flat blade screwdriver and check the tightness of the drain screws on each carb bowl. Would only take a minute. That's the only place it could be leaking from.

Could be from the vent hose too. I've had it pouring out of there when sitting in the sun in the hot weather here.

It's coming from the single hose that's near / behind the kickstand.   I'm assuming that's the tube that the car's 6 tubes drain into.

I'll dig around a bit in the morning,  though it's kinda tough to trace since gas quickly evaporates.

Appreciate your suggestions.   Thanks

+1

My thought also, and without asking a lot of questions, just keep an eye on it to see if it happens again, before I would spend a lot of time looking for something that maybe nothing.

my mistake....  the drip came from the 'FUEL TANK BREATHER TUBE' (page 1-25 in the shop manual), not the carb drain tube that is on the other side (bundled with two other tubes).

Does that change anything?  Shall I be concerned?

Did you just fill your tank and was it sitting in the sun? If so I wouldn't worry, I've learned just to not have a recently filled tank sitting in the sun. cooldude

I did indeed fill the tank...  And did park in the sun...  Much appreciated, he said with a sigh of relief!

Thanks all!
