Been over 2 years now for me, but I still consider myself recent... Still hanging in there, sometimes it gets touchy, especially with all the.....drama... with work right now, but so far I've avoided the temptation...

Good luck to all the other quitters! Recent, long term, or just contemplating becoming one...

I just quit...February 15th, 2010 will be my 25th anniversary of finally quitting (not that I remember the date or anything!!).  They were $0.95/pack for Marlboro red, hard pack when I quit.  They seem to cost a bit more now-a-days.  I was 2 packs/day at the time I quit.

Good luck to all that make it and keep trying for those that don't.  If anybody wants the 40+ extra pounds I've never lost since quitting let me know.

10 years this past Feb. Like John, I'm not quite sure why I remember the date!

I don't remember the exact day, but it was the first week of Jan. 2008.  I find it hard to believe I ever smoked.  (after 35 years) I used Chantix because I have no willpower.  And the prices today...OMG.  Being currently jobless, I sure couldn't afford it.  Oh, and I'll take your 40 lbs if someone would take my 50 lbs.

I do hope that those who want to quit can and, those who have quit recently can stay away from them.

Smoked 25 years, smoke free 5 years. Wife 3 years smoke free. We each smoked two packs a day. That computes to some cash!!! New toy? bigger house?

I quit June 8, 2009 after surgery for a double umbilical hernia. I didn't plan on it ........... it just happened and I love it........ no interest in smoking... kinda weird. Although when I coughed after surgery the pain was excruciating.....maybe that's why. Anyway, I rewarded myself with a 2000 Standard.

This is a cool post, but don't forget to post progress in the "I think I'll quit too" thread.  Willow reports that that the "I'll quit too" thread is in third place.

Maybe we can do better?

As stated in the "I'll quit too" thread, I understand this is a motorcycle forum, but a little bragging and moral support could not hurt anyone too much.

Guys, I "quit" in 1999 and I`m here to tell you it was 20 years too late !!! I had quite off and on for 10 years until I could not get a good breath. Smoking has cost me more than I want to admit. To all that are trying to QUIT, that will be the best thing you have done for your HEALTH. Stay strong in your quest to be smoke free. It will pay strong dividends.  Smiley

Was a heavy smoker for 10 years... 2+ packs a day, then quit for 13 years.  cooldude

Started again when I went through divorce... although only 1/2 pack a day.  Sad

Quit again Jan 2004, and haven't looked back.  Feel so much better.  Smiley

Although, I do enjoy a cigar a couple of times a month.... (usually on the golf course)  Evil

What hurts the most..... 2 of my 3 adult daughters are smokers.   Cry

23 years this October, smoked 2 packs of Camels a day. Every now and then I get the urge, maybe desire is a better word, but I figure if I wait long enough it will pass .... and always has.  cooldude

9/25/2002 ended my 30+ years as a smoker. It's amazing how much healthier I am now, even though I'm 30some pounds heavier. The yearly bouts with bronchitis are a thing of the past, and that feels great. It's darned hard to be a smoker anymore. Remember the good old days when you could smoke anywhere but elevators and theaters ? Long gone - and in a way I lament that as just another loss of freedom imposed on us by the nanny state safety nazis. At least we can still ride - for now.

We noticed the prices were higher in Iowa last week. She got a pack of cheap menthols at the I-80 truck stop for $7.  Shocked
