First post here from an old, fat, used and abused 61 yo retiree. Been riding off and on since I was a teenager.  Looking back, most of my recent bikes have all been aircooled twins ie: BMs, Gooses or Ducks all of which could ride rings around Harleys. Had to get that out of the way since I see alot of comparisons of the Valk against HD's here.  Picked up a nice 98 Standard and am in the process of getting some Progressives, a four piece Corbin set up and some Baker wings for it.  It is a fantastic piece of machinery  especially if you are into chrome and fruit flavored colors. Have been reading and learning about this beast for the last couple of weeks.  Lots of good, useful info here.

Most everyone here has a great respect for all things two wheeled. Some of the HD rumbles come from the elitist attitude from SOME HD riders.

Welcome to the site, you have a great bike and hopefully will enjoy many safe and happy miles on it. Check out the tech board if you have problems. They are very helpful and patient.

Happy trails!  cooldude

Welcome aboard.  You're going to make a lot of acquaintances here, and find a wealth of information about your new ride.   Smiley

Welcome, I am new myself, not to riding  30 plus years there and not to the valk. I bought my 98 std new on July 28th 1998. New to this board, lots of great info and help here. I just rebuilt my clutch and the info I got here saved me a pile.

How did you like the BMWs, I am thinking of adding another bike to the family and I really like the 1100 and 1150 RT. Do not care much for the styling of the newer 1200 RT. Planning a trip from Central Florida to Alaska in the future and not sure I want to under take it on my std.

I believe there is a ride report of someone taking a Valk up to Alaska over on ADV rider.  My weapon of choice would probably be something along the lines of a Kawi KLR 650 since they are a little easier to pickup plus I would not mind as much for a cheaper bike taking the abuse, then I could then sell it and take the ferry back to Seattle. For a BMW R11xx, I went with the GS model for the long suspension and off road tire choices and with a Aeroflo windscreen it offers almost as much wind protection as the RT and BMW's are made for big peeple like the Valkyrie. For used ones, look closely at the rear drive train since that is a weak spot.

The Valkyrie reminds me of my first car I bought in 1971 when I got out of the ARmy, a 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 389 ci 4 bbl putting out somewhere over 300 hp and 400 ft/lb torque and as  big as a small boat and if I remember correctly, it even had a FM radio.. Can't wait to get it set up for a 3 or 4 day shake down ride. Honda has a good rep for well engineered, quality products and the Valkyrie is a classic.

Welcome aboard Jim and Hello Wingman! Was just wondering if all was good with you?

Enjoy the Valk Jim as I know you will. Sounds like you've had some other great bikes too.

As Mr. Wingman says. "Happy Trails".

Hello Wingman! Was just wondering if all was good with you?

I'm doing well Mike! I hope all is well for you.

I am chest deep in a new job with no vacation for the first year and practically no time off! I guess you could say that blessings abound for me in this economic downturn. That's what happens when you go to work for a brewery during a depression!  Roll Eyes

I don't get a lot of time to post, but I read when I can and today I saw that Connie is starting a competition that I can't enter. I still think it will be good for the club, I just can't get enough time off to participate. I will just have to be happy that I have a job and ride the Valk to work; that's not so bad, it is a nice two lane ride.

Thanks for asking about me. I will check in from time to time.

You do realize that for new members to remain in good standing and not have their dues doubled that you must post pictures of you and your ride for our inspection. coolsmiley

Thanks all for the welcome. As soon as I get the shocks and seat etc on her and figure out how to post picts I will. I can only hope to keep her clean as the prev owner since I live a mile down a dirt road and on windy days not uncommon to see dust devils and tumbleweeds sailing along 50-75 feet in the air.
