GOT CURVES??

VRCCDS0184

« on: August 08, 2009, 03:54:33 PM »

I got some new bling.  Cool

I talked with Sean(Chillerman) at Inzane about the Kury Trany covers. He said he had put something behind the covers to help deaden the sound. As it is now they seem to ampify it some. Any suggestions? Also I put the allen screw in below the ignition (see photo)as the instructions stated, but the factory bolt looks better is there any reason I cant use the factory one. Thanks Sharkey

You can use Dyna Mat on the back side.  I used a 3M product but can't remember what it is called...but similar.  Go to an Auto body supply store and ask.   I think they wanted $24 for a box of it and of course I didn't need that much.  The store told me who was buying the stuff, so I went there and asked if they would sell me 2 sheets. cooldude

I use the stock bolt on both my Valks.   I think they thought that some bikes might not have enough room to get a socket on the head of a bolt.

Looks good. Sorry I don't have an answer to your questions. Just wanted to say. I hope you put the bolt back in the crash bar. It is removed in the pic.

Thanks. I had to take off the Bakers to get the spark plug covers on. I am going to leave them off for the rest of summer. I put them back on for Inzane, for those cool mountain mornings, and they help keep my legs dry in the rain. They were back in immediatly after the picture.

Years ago I sprayed the inside of m tranny covers with undercoating.  Used three coats and let them dry good between coats.  Deadens the sound and is cheap enuff.

I did the undercoating thing and it proved to be very effective.  However, I decided to go one step further and it seemed to get the tranny sounds to maybe a little LESS than with no covers at all!!  I added little rubber gaskets to both sided of the cover when bolting it to the tranny.

Sharkey, I used some temperature rated foam insulation I get from the HVAC supply house, works well.  Is that a Longhorn peg extension I see on your crash bar?   Grin

BTW, I think the allen head bolt is there just so you don't scratch up that indent with a socket.  I used the stock bolt.

Have you considered the covers, and especially with an inside layer of insulation will drive up the ambient heat inside the motor.  The liquid cooling is mainly in the head/cylinder area.

I would not think it would be any worse that a Goldwing with a 100 pounds of plastic around everything.

Chillerman I dont know what those a called, some type of offset I found in a box of spare parts. they put the pegs close to the same location as yours. All I know is its a lot more comfortable for this 6'5" body.

ACE hardware has allen head chrome and if you go the undercoating route try the duplicolor truck bed coating in a spray can it is more durable than undercoating. Oh Yea Looks Good

What type of sound are you getting from the tranny covers ?

I have them too.

I had the dreaded Buzz Bolt sound, now I think I have Vibrating Radiator Chrome or maybe covers.

Is your sound sort of behind you ? or does it appear to be in front , yet you narrowed it down to the covers.

Mine appears to be in front, it is poss I not tighten the buzz bolt enough.

The Kury tranny cover looks good until they get some age on 'em. Mine have started wrinkling. They are about 5 years old. Both sides were they are the plastic chrome. Looks like crap now. Another good idea by Kury!

My sound is from the covers, it just happened when i put them on.

I have had to tighten the buzz bolt many times. It seems to loosen up on its own. I torque it pretty tight, but it seems to looen up. I thought about the blue loctite.
