Went for a 35 mile ride Friday ran perfect. Saturday I get up early to go for a short ride , expecting company. Warmed up 5 min. and took off , didn't feel right but thought it just needed to warm up. Got to the main road and it was feeling better till I hit the first light and pulled in the clutch and it died. First thing I thought was it felt fuel starved.. Checked vacuum petcock line looked ok .had lights turned over strong just no start. Called my son and we pushed it home 1/4 mile no hills I don't  want to do that again. The only thing I was thinking was it's the petcock. Stock petcock rebuilt 3 years ago.Took tank off got my mity vac and applied vacuum to the petcock and nothing . Pulled petcock and took it apart and didn't see anything wrong checked screen and it was clear. Put it back in and applied vacuum to it and gas was flowing. Put the tank on and it fired right up. I think a Pingle is in my future I don't like the vacuum feature being an issue . Does anyone have a thought on what could have caused  the petcock To act up like that.

May have a leak in the diaphragm.  IMHO, oem petcocks are junk.  After a couple episodes with mine, I bought an after market manual petcock and never looked back..  Hoser

I installed a Pingle at least a dozen years ago and I too never looked back.

This is where I got mine and a few others for friends. Also put on the DanMarc fuel shut off valve.

Now, after some thought [ and thats hard] it still seems like a petcock problem, if, nothing else has been done previously like fuel tank removal. If the tank has been off then its fairly common to pinch/kink the vent line which causes pretty much the same problem.

I'm sure it is a petcock problem now . The funny thing is how quickly it happened, 35 mile ride  everything perfect next morning no flow in the petcock .Then all I did is take the p.c. Apart and put it back together and it was working again. Ordering the Pingle.

OK, I didn't think you had done anything, but, just thought I'd ask.

qusetion, with pingle and Dan Marc valve, do you still need an extra in line filter? Seems like asking for trouble with the gravity feed of fuel.

Thanks

I don't see a reason to change both to Pingle and Dan-Marc, but, usually the tank comes off anyway, so, why not just to be sure.
I happen to be a fan of in-line filters. It apparently doesn't take too much to hold a float open.
I've been using a Pingle for at least a dozen years along with a plain Jane filter.
