I received an email today from the daughter of our good friend and riding brother. Donald Chavous left us on  July 29th. We all know him by his handle DonaldCC. She said that he died peacefully in his sleep. I remember him as a good friend and riding buddy. He rode with last on our Death Valley ride. Great sense of humor and very interesting to talk to. I know it's short notice but if anyone would like to attend his service's here is the information.

The service will be held this Saturday, August 9th, at 2:00pm.
34-600 Mission Hills Drive
Rancho Mirage, CA 92270
RSVP to his daughter Emily by Thursday morning: emilychavous@aol.com
***If anyone rode with him and would like to share a story and/or photo for a memory book, feel free to email as well.

Please post your thoughts on this tread and let Emily know how much we appreciated Don.
If anyone has any pictures of Don send them to me and I will post them here.

Oh my.   Sad

I've never met Donald, but thru this board and pm's with him, I regarded Donald as a good friend.  True, we did spar from time to time regarding politics, but that just brought us closer as friends.

He was even pm'ing me regarding my recent surgery offering advice....and seemed really concerned for my recocery and what I went through.

In one of his last pm's to me, he wished me a speedy recovery so that I could get back on the board so he could resume giving me crap.....his words.

I am deeply saddened by this news and I shall truly miss Donald.   Cry

I extend my sincerest condolences to his family.

I am very saddened to hear of Donald's passing. Of the few times I saw him I always enjoyed his company and conversation with him. Ths first time we met was at the ride where we ate at the Hot Dog place in the casino. My brother and I were at the table with him and he asked about the guy that had ridden in South America from Argentia to Alaska. I told him that guy was a real a$$hole and he probably wouldn't like him (much to my surprise my brother agreed). He said he still wanted to meet him and asked if he was here. I told him he was looking at him. We all had a laugh and talked for quite some time. I always enjoyed reading his posts on the local and main board. After reading all the VRCC posts it is no wonder he was well liked.

He will be missed by me and I'm sure all his friends, co-workers and everyone who had the opportunity to meet him.

  RIP Donald.
