Looks like the ol' right fork seal has finally had enough. It held on for quite a while after a SealMate treatment last summer, but it doesn't look like that will work this time.  I just ordered an All Balls seal kit. Just curious, what would be a fair price (or reasonable time charge) for a shop to install them? |

the right fork started to link again, found this site http://www.rswracing.com/airout.htm and doing some searching it seams inverted forks can build up pressure inside thereby forcing out fluid. I roll the bike backwards while sitting on it and then apply the brakes while pulling back on the handle bars causing the forks to extend. did a few times. the leak is now almost non-existent. I have also noticed more leakage from different temp changes. something to try. |

Thanks CA, that's pretty much how I fixed them the first time, SealMate and bouncing the hell out of 'em. It's really shot this time. I was just wondering what I should expect to be billed for the install, hopefully not more than an hour.

Local shop charged me around $100 to put in new seals. I got the seals, pulled the forks off, and took them in. The shop cleaned up the outside/inside of forks, put in the new seals, and warn me that would need bushing next time. Figured it was well worth the money.

A friend here in Pensacola took his '98 standard to a respected shop and it cost him about $375.00 parts and labor. Parts = All new OEM bushings,sliders? and seals etc.

I seem to remember the parts were about $105 for bushings and seals. I paid $90 bucks to have mine done the first time, but once I found out how easy it was to change things out on my neighbors bike I won't be paying that money again. |

The manual lists several bushings as wear parts too... When I took my forks apart it was apparent there was wear on some of the bushings... -Mike |

The local Honda dealer here quoted ~$300 for the pair and ~$400 if they needed to change out the front brake pads because of the oil. Fortunately the sealmates fixed my leak for now.
