Just removed the carb bank from the old girl and all of the jets are cloged.  Do I need to purchase new jets or can I clean these?  I also want to install an electric fuel shut off switch.  Can anyone tell me where I can buy one and how to install it?  Should I continue to use the OEM petcock or should I get a pingle?  If I install an electric fuel shutoff do I need to be conserned about the petcock?

Once I start putting everything together I will probably be asking for help in connecting all of those darn hoses.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Here's where to put the valve.  Connect one wire to a good ground, and the other wire to a switched circuit, like the accessory terminals unter the right sidecover.  Current draw is 1 amp.  If you disable the vacuum side of the petcock (the manual side will still function normally) so it always allows fuel flow, you should remove the vacuum line & cap the nipple at the intake, then there's no need for a pingle.

After being stranded on mass pike saturday with a bad petcock I have decided to go with an electric shutoff and disable the vacuum side of stock petcock. What shutoff should I use and how do you disable the vacuum side of petcock?
Thanks for the help.

Use the electric solenoid Mr. Bubbles refers to a few posts up.
Put it in the position Kingbee's picture shows.
For an easy electrical hook-up use the 5AMP Auxiliary wires under the right side cover.  If you want to get a little more fancy, contect it to the Tilt switch also.

To convert the stock petcock to manual, take the cover off and put the spring on the other side so it pushes the seal away from the petcock opening.  Remove the vacuum line and seal the vacuum port on the petcock with JB Weld.  Cap the #6 carb vacuum port.

Viola, you're done.  cooldude

Does anyone sell a chrome cover without a hole for the fuel shutoff knob?

The answer to the question on cleaning your slow jets is maybe you can clean them, but possibly not very easily. Let them soak in some stron carb cleaner at least overnight then try some compressed air.
If they won't clean you can replace them for not too much. Many of us have replaced the stock 35 slows with 38s, theu don't clog as easily and they cured a flat spot for me.

Thanks but those do not cover the entire hole.  I have a set on now I like other than the hole for the petcock which I plan on replacing.

I have been out of town for the last week and 1/2.  Ordered the new jets before I left and just got word thatg they shipped a few days ago. When they get here I will install hem and then the hard part starts.  I will have to put all those tubes back on.  Question? Would I be better off to use the old tubes or get some new tuubing, or should I do the de-smog?  If I did get new, does anyone know where I gould get it from?

Is there a guide showing which tube goes where?

Just do a de-smog and be done with it. You will be happy and there will be a lot less clutter on top of t he motor.

True... but never under estimate the power of guitar string...

I've cleaned some pretty bad off dirt bike carbs by running guitar strings through all the little jets/passages I could find.  (old strings of course... knowing someone who plays is the cheaper way of doing it)
