My stock fuel valve has irratated me for the last time and I am now going to install the Golan fuel valve. My question is, now that the fuel selector knob will no longer be used is there something I can install in the soon to be big hole in the middle of the chrome plate I have on the left side of my tank or do I have to remove the pretty chrome plate and just live with it? The right side has the chrome plate around the ignition switch and I like the matching plate on the left side. Does anyone make a replacement plate without the selector knob hole perhaps?

Leave it off...
You'll need the extra space to be able to
reach and operate the petcock.

you can leave the old fuel valve knob attached to the engine hangar so it fills the hole. As long as you can reach under it to operate the Golan........

I will be talking with the Golan rep today and will post the model info when I get it. I wanted to maintain my reserve capacity as close to stock as possible without having to modify the pick up tube. Thats my main reason for the Golan choice. I was perusing previous posts and Golan also offers a model with a little smaller diameter pickup tube that allows you to also run the tank screen which I would like to continue to use. I like filtering redundancy so I also have Golans 10 micron inline filter installed. Hoping to keep everything out of the carbs except fuel.  |

Golan makes a good petcock.
The only difference I can see between the two,
Golan and Pingel is the action to find "off".
The Pingel "off" is at one end of the lever throw,
while the Golan "off" is between "on" and "res".
That was my main complaint about the stock petcock.
Always having to fiddle with the petcock to be sure it is
actually "off".
No problem with the Pingel. Turn the lever to the stop
to shut off the gas. No worry, never going to be a question
or a problem.

I have had a Golan Petcock on my standard for pert near 4 years. Not a single problem, I like the fuel off indent, easy to feel.

Im with Ricky on this. I like my on/off to be on opposite ends with reserve in the middle. Pingle does have a shorter screen and the reserve is only about half of stock but I have only hit reserve once in 4 years. I use a pingle 1311-ch

I changed to a Pingle and left the OEM round selector cover and took off the selector button only.
Lowes sells a shinny cover button that fits right in and covers the hole.

If you have an IS, couldn't you simply leave it in reserve, and just watch the fuel gauge for when it is time to fill up?
Been wondering this for a while...still have stock on mine, and a Dan Marc fuel valve on it, but thinking if I ever go to a Pingle or other, if I could just leave it in reserve and watch for the light if needed. Knock on wood, never run out of gas on my Wing using that method.
