Newbie here in Michigan, I have a 2001 Honda Valkyrie GL1500C bought used last year from dealer. had rear tire and brake pads replaced last year.. now only 400 miles on the bike since I got her, there is a chatter coming from the rear of the bike, sounds like brake caliper wobbling. I pulled the Caliper cleaned it all up pads are over a 1/4 inch thick. The disk I am unsure about couldn't get dealer to give me spec on it, I know its thinner then new. after I got it all back together I took it out and as soon as I touch rear brakes it makes a grinding/chatter sound. Then as you take off it makes it as well. Should I be looking at a wheel bearing instead of the brakes. the sound appears to be coming from the Left side of the bike... I don't want to take her to the dealer, they are a big joke. 2nd question is there a good place online to get parts for her.. this is my dream bike I love it more then any other bike I have owned... could use some advise....
It would be unusual for a wheel bearing to make noise only when on the brakes. It sounds more likely something is put together wrong with the caliper and or brake pads and springs.
If you have a lift, lift the rear wheel off the ground and try grabbing the bottom of the wheel and forcing it to move side to side. If any slight movement even a tic tic feeling then its a bad bearing. If its all tight chances are the bearings are good but that's no guarantee
PS....this is a post for the tech board, you will get a better response.
