Were the 4-cylinder wings prone to hydrolock and if not.....why?

Not sure of the answer, but if not, it's probably due to position of the carburetors. The Valks are down draft, being tilted as they are. That is one of the factors for hydrolock.

My 1984 Gold Wing had a electric fuel pump and inline filter. Turn off the key and no fuel.

The fuel tanks are behind the motor, laying on the lower frame, and will not drain fuel without the fuel pump. So even if the carbs leak, they won't dump fuel down the throats and into the cylinders.

My GL1100 had a mechanical fuel pump.
Mechanical or electric,,,,,they had fuel pumps, tanks were much lower on the bike and I believe they were actually below the level of the carbs.

Good Old mechanical. I believe it was on the RH side head. So I would think it ran off the cam there.

I have a 77 gl1000 with a mechanical pump and experienced hydrolock with it. I had a leaking Carb inlet valve. Fuel will siphon from the tank through the pump if the tank is more than about half filled.
