Tho't I read somewhere that the NEW Valkyrie had some sort of tool kit located in the right hand keyed trap door.

I don't have one, but there are some straps in there that seem like they should hold "something".  Something smallish.

Anyone know what the deal is?

Should a few pieces there, mine has a kit. never looked in it, so not sure what is there. i have a small set that i carry if we travel any distance. never needed any tools yet on the road......knok on wood.

Don't know if it applies to the Valk, but the Canadian F6B's get a tool kit while the USA version doesn't.  ???

I was running some errands and stopped by the Honda shop.  On the parts list for the GL1800C is a "tool kit" of sorts with maybe 8-10 pieces.  Screw drivers/handles, wrenches, couple allen wrenchs, helmet strap holder, yada, yada.

Dealer will check into it.   coolsmiley

When I picked up my F6B on Saturday I quickly noticed there was no tool kit strapped in with the manuals in the left saddlebag.  I read through the manual and it confirmed that tool kits were only included in Canadian models.

That had me a bit concerned until I realized that in the 260,000+ miles I've ridden my 2 Valkyries, the only tools I've needed were the spark plug wrench and the spanner to adjust the rear shocks.  Both were used at home.

Other than tires there's very little you need to repair on the road these days.  With FI and all the electronics there's little you can fix anyway.  If anything, OEMs should include a tire plug kit with their bikes.  My 1988 BMW R100GS came with one, and the first stop I made on my new bike was at Wal Mart to buy a compressor and some sticky plugs.  If I decide I need any other tools I'll make a kit on my own.

I agree that there is little to fix on the bike.  Heck, there's little I can fix period!

I do have a little compressor and some plugs in the right bag of my Wing.  Haven't needed it, and not sure I can do it on the road, but have them anyway.

I don't remember if I've ever plugged a tire on the road, either.  Since bikes switched to tubeless tires, it seems if you pick up a nail you just get a slow leak and don't notice it for a day or more when the bike is parked at home.  At least that's been my experience.

It used to be different.  If a tube got punctured, the tire deflated in seconds.  I always carried spare tubes, tire irons, and a spark plug type pump.  I needed them often, once about 2000 miles from home in upstate New York.  I love tubeless tires!

Funny story about the toolkit when I bought my Valkyrie:
There was no toolkit in my side box when I picked up my bike. It was new out of the crate. When I read the manual, it said there was supposed to be a toolkit. I went into the showroom with the sales guy and opened another side box on another Valkyrie on their floor. Wa-lah, there was a toolkit in the side box. But "toolkit" was hardly what I'd call it. I was in the same blue vinyl case that I've always seen Honda use, but now, it only came with a single metric Allen wrench. I'm not sure if this is all that is supposed to be included in the "toolkit", but at least it is something.
The manual doesn't describe what's supposed to be in the toolkit anyway. Oh well, I made him give me that "toolkit" and sped away.

I saw the fiche at the dealers last week.  Exploded view of each "tool".  I don't remember seeing the word 'optional', but I wasn't looking that close.  The picture just had all these little deals ... couple spanners, flat/Phillips screwdriver, handle for same, helmet strap, yada, yada.

Pretty basic / bare bones stuff.

Just wondering.

On my ST1300 the only tool in the kit was a 5mm Allen wrench. In my F6B nothing.

Yeah, you need that to take off all the body panels, every thing is 5mm on this bike (Valk)

Per original post, yeah that strap with wire loops on the ends is apparently a helmet lock strap. I suppose you use it to lock your SO helmet on there in addition to yours, but can't imagine how that works. Do you loop through the D-rings on one end and lock the other? Crap manual does not say. Perhaps they should have put "take it to the dealer" next to the picture like they do with every other topic. crazy2

For the helmet strap you run it through the ring on your helmet and then lock the 2 wire ends to the lock on the left rear of the bike.

Unfortunately, the saddlebags interfere a little with getting the key turned in the lock but with a little work you can get it unlocked.

YES!  It arrived last night.  Sent you an email.  I was very pleased with the hauler.   I had just driven 12 hours from a trip home to see my dad so I rode it home from the pickup location (in 33 degree weather) at 10pm and then promptly crashed.  Off to work early this am - so no time to drool over it yet.  However, although quite chilly, the ride home was SO smooth!

If you had to depend on the factory tools for any repair you would be in deep trouble that is why when my bike didn't come with them I didn't ask. I did make a tool kit of a few essentials and put it in a plastic bag and put it under the seat. I do have a tire plug kit and a small compressor and have used it out on the road. That does come in real handy especially when you have stopped and the bike sits and you find a flat when you come out.
