Has anyone replaced their engine guards with a new set? I recently bought a crashed I/S and the bars were bent from the ditch the bike was laid into. I bought a set of new ones (never used) and a couple of the bolts are going to take a little persuasion to get the holes lined up- nothing that can't be done with some pressure in the right area, but just wondering if that's normal. A dealer assessed the bike before the previous owner sold it to me and frame damage was not on the quote sheet.

So, was the tooling somewhat inconsistent on the bars, or should they just fall into place?

Yeah, I'm doing that already and I've tried starting different bolts first.

I had the same issue on a Valkyrie I had to put back together after a friend cartwheeled it at 50 MPH. Keep trying and grunt hard while tweeking.

When I loosen my original engine guards up, on unwrecked bikes, they do not go back together easily.  I have had to use a crowbar to pull a mount to line up with the hole (without loosening all bolts).  My guards have hit the ground in tipovers but no wrecks; they are scraped, but not bent or deformed that I can see.

My point is, I believe your engine guard fitment is pretty SOP, and doubt your frame is bent.

The advice to install all bolts loosey goosey, then go around multiple times turning them in, is sound.

Thanks- makes me feel better. Got 'er installed tonight. Saved the hole where the two bars meet for last. Seemed to be the best way to go, at least for this particular bar. Just need a red/black fairing and a pair of lowers and I can finally stop wearing a backpack and driving my Standard on trips!

Mine just went on. Strangely easy.... left side front bolt in first and it all lined up. Based on what I have read this is rare.

Engine guard should need no persuasion to fit properly. My guess is that the frame is tweaked a bit  the bike was wrecked
