Like a press would do. And the wheel gets harder to turn. When torques to spec. The wheel was hard to turn. I took all apart. checked bearings, spacers right. Still same again. Any suggestions.

Why did you have the wheel off in the first place?  Was it just a tire change?  I don't even want to venture a guess with out a little more back ground.

Make sure the spacer is in the pumpkin it's a round tube with a flared end on it. Goes in the center and axel goes through it. Had one fall out of the pumpkin once and didnt realize it and the wheel did exactly what you are describing.

Yeah my thought as well, but I wanted to be sure no other "wheel" work was done.  Only other thing could be the brake caliper bracket is some how caddywhompiss.

If it does happen to be that spacer, the flared end goes toward the wheel.

If bearings were changed, the internal spacer between the two wheel bearings could have been left out

And that might give that pop pop sound as well...

Left Spacer in the correct way?

Regardless of the cause, that pop, pop sound

is not good, and sure does indicate something

was breaking. Exactly what, will be discovered

with an inspection, after the cause (of the popping)

is revealed.

You can also get a pop or snapping sound from a bearing in a wallowed out seat. With that, the bearing isn't sitting in a perfectly round seat and will move around. Might need to have that checked out.

I had something similar happen when I was trying to put too much paste in the splines, out of paranoia.  Just had put a bunch of work and money in to the final drive because of the PO's lack of spline maintenance.  New O-rings, and way too much moly paste will definately tighten p the rear wheel.

I agree with the others. Something is wrong. Sounds to me as though the wheel bearing spacer is missing.
But, regardless, I'd recommend not tightening it any more and take it back apart ASAP.

the one in the pumpkin cannot get turned around.  It can get left out but you wont get anything together if you had put it in backkards, it would be sticking out way too far to get the wheel on
