Not having been there, this sounds an awful lot like a high schooler making a thinly veiled disruption, and then proclaiming loudly that he's being punished for sneezing, or something along those lines.
If I had to guess, I'd say he was being intentionally obnoxious, and repeatedly so.

Of course, since that article is so detailed, we know EXACTLY what went on.
