Check for a firmware update.  It should bring your headset to G9x.

Please note that after installing the update, you will need to delete the Bluetooth pairing on your Bluetooth device (mobile phone/GPS/MP3 Player) and pair the G9 again.

Connect two mobile phones (or a GPS device) simultaneously and talk hands-free.

Music Sharing™ technology via A2DP:
Music Sharing™- Rider & Passenger listen to the same stereo music (via A2DP)

Intercom to Mobile:
Divert intercom calls automatically to your mobile phone when out of range.

Phone Buddy:
This new feature allows hands-free calls to any pre-defined telephone number, for example: calling home, office, partner, etc.
Using the Cardo Community, phone numbers can now be included in the "1+8" Buddy List.

Music Scan:
This features allows you to "Browse" through your playlist without having to changes tracks manually.
With music ON, press + (scans up) or - (scans down) for 5 sec. The first few seconds of each audio track will be played.
To stop the scan on the current track, say any word loudly into the microphone or press "Volume +" button for 2 seconds

Well James and I have the new firmware.  Version 2.0 is different.  As with Scala products re-linking these things required a Virgin sacrifice.  Finally get James, Billy and I linked and off for a ride.  During the ride today, James started getting excessive static so he did a reset of his headset.  Mine then began repeating "Busy" in a steady stream for about 5 minutes.  All this time I tried to power the unit down, select any mode, or just stop saying "Busy".  Finally it stopped with the red lights on and it would not power down.  Now 3 hours later it still is hung up in a loop.

James and I recommend not updating the units for a few weeks.  There is certainly a glitch in the update.

Undecided Well as Gil mentioned we had a little trouble with our com's Saturday. The new features seem well meaning but when we can't communicate 5 feet away how are we supposed to be able to connect to a passing rider up to a mile away, that alone members of our own buddy set already programmed into our units. The voice commands are now weak or non active; going to increase the VOX on the basic settings to see if that helps. The units now take longer to find and connect, when they do connect. Every command ends up with radio on. The volume also seems to be affected with the 2.0 upgrade. The good side is a smoother female voice and different system tones. With close to $1000.00 in com between the 3 of us Saturday, a few tin cans and some string might have been a better way to go.
After Gil's unit fried, Billy and my scala connected back as normal; noting that Billy had not upgraded as of yet. We have had these working multi rider in the past, and pretty well, so hopefully a new update will be offered soon to get us chatting smoothly again. A well functioning com can be quite a plus between riders, as for the radio function, I can take it or leave it as I use the system mostly for my nav com.

Well the unit has returned to a working state.  Connecting it to the PC and doing a SYNC woke it up.  This update is still new to the rider world so the comments are mostly about the update being available.  A common comment is the units don't seem to connect well.

Using the Android app (another weak point from Cardo) a software update is recommended.  So the kids at Cardo are slipping.  I really don't want to hack into this thing and see what makes it tick.  For now I'll wait and see.  Looking at the Sena 20 units as a backup.

I contacted Scala for you guys. Here is what they said. Looks a little different than what I expected but I understand what they are trying to do here. Looks pretty complete.

The latest update (Version 2.0) requires all previously paired Bluetooth connections to be reset and new pairings need created for the devices to respond properly.

To resolve your connection issue please perform a soft reset of the phone by deleting the headset from the phone and turning the phone off for at least 15 seconds and taking out the battery, if possible. I prefer leaving the phone off during the reset and pairing process of the modules and intercom connection.

In some cases you will need to perform a full reset to the GPS to allow the connections to pair properly. To reset the GPS please hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the Zumo screen while turning on the Zumo. Keep your finger pressed until the message appears. Touch yes to clear all user data. (All original settings are restored any items that you have saved are erased.

Then perform a Bluetooth Reset to all scala rider G9 headsets.
1. With the G9 powered on, press and hold the Mobile button until the unit begins to flash red and blue.
2. With the LED flashing red and blue, press and hold the volume up button for 5 seconds until the unit flashes purple and turns off.
3. You have now reset your unit.

To connect the scala rider G9 headsets as intercom partners, please do as follows.
1. While both headsets are turned OFF, turn them ON by pressing and holding the Mobile Buttons until the Blue Lights flash three times.
2. Make sure that both headsets are now flashing slowly in Blue.
3. Choose an available CHANNEL you wish to use to pair the headset (CHANNEL “A” or CHANNEL “B”). NOTE: Selecting a CHANNEL that is already in use will override the paired headset on that CHANNEL with the newly paired headset.
4. On the scala rider G9 headset, press and hold the assigned CHANNEL BUTTON (“A” or “B”) for at least six seconds until the headset’s BLUE or RED Light begins flashing rapidly, indicating it is in Intercom Pairing mode.
5. Repeat Step 3-4 for the other scala rider G9
6. Within a few seconds, both headsets will show a solid light for two seconds, indicating that the two headsets are now paired, connected and ready for use.

After the G9 modules are paired you will turn off both headsets then turn your phone on and confirm the G9 is no longer listed in the compatible Bluetooth devices.

When attempting to pair the G9 headset with a Bluetooth enabled phone the phone must support the ability to pair to Bluetooth headsets. It is necessary to place the headset into pairing mode before trying to discover it with the phone. To do this please:
1. Make sure the G9 is powered on.
2. Press and hold the Mobile button until the headset flashes Red and Blue.
3. Now search for a Bluetooth enabled headset from the Phone system you are pairing the G9 with.
4. After your device finds the G9 you will be prompted to enter a passkey. The passkey for the G9 is (0000).

When attempting to pair the G9 headset with a Bluetooth enabled GPS the GPS must support the ability to pair to Bluetooth headsets. It is necessary to place the headset into GPS pairing mode before trying to discover it with the GPS. To do this please:

1. Make sure the G9 is powered on.
2. Press and hold the Mobile button until the headset flashes Red and Blue.
3. While the headset’s LED’s are alternating Red/Blue tap the Volume + button and wait for a slow Red/Blue alternating LED.
3. Now search for a Bluetooth enabled headset from the Phone system you are pairing the G9 with.
4. After your device finds the G9 you will be prompted to enter a passkey. The passkey for the G9 is (0000).

When attempting to pair the G9 headset with a Bluetooth enabled A2DP device, it is necessary to place the headset into A2DP pairing mode before trying to discover it with the A2DP device. To do this please:

1. Make sure the G9 is powered on.
2. Press and hold the Down Volume + until the headset flashes Red/Blue alternating.
3. Now search for a Bluetooth enabled headset from the A2DP system you are pairing the G9 with.
4. After your device finds the G9 you will be prompted to enter a passkey. The passkey for the G9 is (0000)

Please feel free to contact us if we can assist you with any other questions.

Best Regards,

Robert Wargo
