I will duck and cover before I hit Post, but I have done a lot of reading and can't find what I am looking for.

This will be my first venture to the dark side, so I am looking for a rounded profile tire to make the switch a little easier. I have seen lots of recommendations, but they are limited because I want a 65 profile to lower my highway rpm. I love the look of the Yoko L-Neova AD08, but it doesn't seem to come in a 205-65. My bigger issue is living on the east coast of  Canada, a lot of the tires I see recommended I can't find anywhere near here and shipping charges to buy online are pretty painful.

Can anyone recommend an easy to find tire in Canada, or a good website to purchase tires from in Canada?

I will be hiding under my desk waiting for the responses. Thanks

With your limited selection AND yer PAINFUL shipping costs the Austone taxi tire sounds to me like your best bet. Kinda one and done deal. And all the reports on the taxi tire say it's very much like a M/C tire. RIDE SAFE.

been looking myself for 205/65. Austone is at the top of my list but looking at alternatives.

have found a few which are low rolling resistance tires (tirerack General looks like the best so far) that are same tread width or 1/2 more as the austone but $50 less. od is 25.5 vs austone 25.9 that is 3/4"

like this tire but haven't been able to find tread width it is a rebadged falken 512

I have run the 512.  I thought it was a great tire.  However, with my throttle the way it is, i only got 10K out of it at 40 PSI.

Im currently run a Yoko avid envigor.  I have about 7K on it now, and i would say it will make it about another 7k.   It handled different than the 512, and in some ways, i would say better.  The only reason i went with this one is cause i could get it in time for sturgis last year.

Next victom will be the this baby. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Altimax+HP&partnum=06HR6AMAXHP&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

I run a 60 tall tire.  I run 2 up, long trips pulling a trailer in the mountains.  I found that with the taller tire like a 65, i was loosing more power than i was gaining in fuel economy cause i was working it so hard.

With the 60 tall, i still get better mpg than a mc tire, and have all the joy of the ct.

I know I am just feeding the forest fire I started but I'm not a fan of the look of the Austone, so it's not my first choice. I love the price of the Ohtsu especially since that site has free shipping. I love the look of the General HP, I was reading some reviews on it earlier and it sounded like some people had trouble with it getting wobbly at 70 Mph, and I routinely cruise at 80-85. Which might be part of my I got 13k km out of my last Avon.

Anyone have an issue with the General at speed?

Heading back under my desk now.

This June, coming home from a ride in Ak. I had the cruise set at 85 mph through Mo. Two up & loaded from vacation. Altimax HP @ 36 psi.  Solid as a rock. No wiggle of any kind. Was super in the rain on the way down.  Best CT I've run.  YMMV

Coming from the left coast of Canada, does it really matter what tire you buy and how much you pay for it?

You should be getting 3x the life out of it. The E3 locally was going to cost me close to $200. The Austone is what, $160 USD, and if I remember right, people claim approx a 200-300 RPM reduction of RPM at 70 MPH.

As to what it looks like, really, why do you care? You can't see it really, unless you have a standard model Valk. When you're on the seat you can't see it at all.

It's your first CT. Go for the Austone. If you don't like the ride of that, you most likely won't like anything. Then you can spend the next 3 years looking for your next one. I bought and mounted the GYTT on a spare rim, but never got on my IS before I wrote it off. Then it was the tire of 1st choice, now very few recommend it.

I'm going to buy an Austone for next spring, and swap it out before I need to, as I have a spare rim for my GW.

Bear in mind this is from a noob to the valk world,  I got all of 350 miles on the Austone and liking it so far. I used up 3 different car tires on my VTX, and the Austone feels better than any of them. Biggest difference I feel, is coming out of a corner, it doesn't want to stand up by itself. The CTs on the X all did that. The Austone feels very similar to a MT.

Thanks for the link CA!!  I have 2 Falken 512's in the garage and I use about 1 per year (17,000 miles).  But I was hoping I wouldn't have to get used to a different tire and now it seems that I won't.

Ohtsu looks interesting.  I love the handling characteristics of the Austone, but I'm not crazy about the price.  I would like to hear any feedback once someone has installed and ridden the Ohtsu a ways.  Would it require the nut cage mod?

After 6 mos. of research, I switched to the dark side.  I went to three tire stores and compared the flexibility of the sidewalks of over 15 brands of 205/60 tires.  I finally settled on the Bridgestone Ecopia.  The tire is flexible in the turns to increase the contact patch, rides excellent in both slow maneuvering and freeway driving.  And it hooks up when drag racing.

I just put on  a Yoko Avid Ascend a few hundred miles ago. First time darksider. Really love the slow speed handling as well as the comfort. I did notice front end wobble at speeds over 70 mph but, still working with tire pressure. Now at 34 psi but will increase this to 38 to see if it makes a difference. Btw, 205-60-16 profile and no noticeable rpm change on the tach.

The majority of times when a front end wobble is experienced, it has

been found to be front tire problems. New tire, old tire never seemed to matter.

HeavyD, go to DarksideM/C on the net and it will give you tire types and riders comments. me i have been riding on the General altimax hp for 5 years now. still looks new. have ridden over 36,000 miles on it. no complaints. but you will have to be the judge on the tire you pick. just look at several and pick the ones with more rounded side edges. and for a start look at the General Gmax, i like the tread design.  thinking about it my self. only thing is it only comes in 205/55/15 not in a 60. but for my short legs that could be a plus.
