Just put on a Champiro VP1 from Discount Tire $59. It works great, sticky in the curves and no squirm. On a sad note my splines are about 40% gone. This winters project will be final drive rebuild. Who knows maybe I'll attempt some kind of write up. My other passion is rock crawling Jeeps and I have set-up LOTS of ring and pinions on all kinds of rigs. The Valk final drive doesn't look all that difficult, like any other job it is all in the set-up of the gear pattern, pinion depth and back-lash. Take care and shimmed properly and you are good to go!

Hey John: I have one in about the same shape. Not sure how one goes about setting backlash, load, etc. I know if done incorrectly you get nice metal shavings! Am very interested in hearing about your rebuild. Seems like it would be better to buy the single gear than to replace entire drive like some are doing. Good to hear from you! Greg

If folks are junking final drives just for splines that is a shame These things can be fixed and there are not an infinite amount of drives out there.

Want some help? I'm pretty good at fetching tools and can wield a camera. I want to learn how to do this.
I do have a shop if you need space to work but it's only got temporary power so welding is out until I get my generator back online.

Hi Kendall Thanks for the offer. You can sure help if you want, I have a 24x24 shop with everything needed and I will probably be doing this when the riding season is over this winter. I will let you know.

I have a spare laying in the garage with worn splines I was going to rebuild when a fellow member offered me complete good one for the right price. I still plan on fixing it. I plan to do the goldwing spline press out. There should be no reason for new shims as all gears and case will be the same.

I agree and that is the way I am leaning there are lots of gw final drives out there. I hope that is all mine will need. R and P set-ups can be tricky.

Looks like a Valk ring/pinion set is about $240 new from Honda. That way you would have a new matched set. I don't know if the Goldwing gears are any cheaper if new? I bet you could find a cheaper used GW drive and swap the gear set. This is probably what you have planned anyway. Hay Jimmyt

I've been buying spare parts for my GW GL1500, have a rear end, I bought at a good price and combined shipping. One thing I've never messed with is the rear end, was always thinking of learning, but never had a reason.
As already mentioned, the GW rear splines work, and as long as there is a cheap supply of those, no one needs to buy a new one.
In case anyone needs it, I have an alt and starter motor. I also still have a bunch of parts from my IS, a lot of those items no one wants.
